Morning/evening all: Off to catch up on today's posts.
A much quieter day yesterday and I did get to the library. No-one else there - by that I mean none of my friends dropped in - it is the usual day we gather. So it seemed rather long & tedious, thinking to myself. I shouldn’t complain as last week I had 3 long conversations! No white stuff here, just some wet stuff oozing out of the atmosphere causing a proliferation of umbrellas and the temp to drop to mid 20s C. Yeay!!!
Dibnlib - In Aussieland we have an expression when asked to a party or a club gathering to "bring a plate". This has confused migrants who literally took an empty plate to the occasion. We mean bring a plate of food for supper/lunch/whatever. A plate of sandwiches, or a cake or a pavlova. Sometimes "sweet or savoury" is specified.
Our new blinds will be fitted next Tues between 10.30 & noon. All the packed-away junk has escaped and I shall deal with it later. Must go on a food shopping expedition shortly. I don’t know yet whether I am required for teen-sitting this weekend. Having heard nothing, I rather fear I am on duty again. <sigh> Hello to everyone. I hope life will quieten down soon and I have time to comment.
Annette, I think we are missing this round of weather. Not sure about Diane though. Yes, lots of horses from here in the NE do go to Florida. Amazing, it's a different world. Serious money needed for that! Count me in for a pud, hope it doesn't have to go through an "enhanced pat down" lol
Patricat, thanks for the explanation. It didn't look right when I typed it!
AQ, glad the weather is cooling off for you. Sorry you didn't meet anyone at the library. and sorry about the teen sitting:(
Going to be chilly tonight but no snow.
Gary: Nearly fell of the chair laughing at the vision of a Christmas pud being subjected to an enhanced pat down!! So much for trying to hide it in one's underpants!
Hi all. Interesting meeting, but home just after 9pm.
Wendy – “our” distillery is Annandale Distillery and is in quite a state of disrepair, but owner has all the permissions needed to get it up and running - starting with (guess what!) roadworks in January to improve access (a requirement of planning permission). The remaining buildings, which had been used as farm stores, have been made safe, others and equipment need replacing. Once it starts up, it will be at least three years before they can sell anything, but of course they want to sell an up-market product, so it will actually take longer. They also hope eventually to open a whisky school and a visitor centre. We already have Bladnoch Distillery in Dumfries and Galloway.
Son eventually phoned back just before dinner – he had been in Inverness finding the Job Centre (nearest to Grantown, as apparently none in Aviemore!) and checking current procedure for signing on when his one month notice runs out. He also went to B&Q for a snow shovel but they don’t have them yet! He got one at Homebase, and also stocked up on root vegetables to maintain his vitamins if the Co-op runs out like last year. He reckoned there was only about ½ inch of snow around the museum.
Gary – well, “spare” pudding didn’t get far! We discovered we had no yoghourt to have with fruit at dinner, and there sat the pudding – so we have sampled it – which means the other half as leftovers tomorrow! It was excellent!!
AQ – a pity you have to have wet stuff falling in order to have comfortable temperature! I hope your weekend will not be too demanding.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Annette - sorry I left you out - and sorry no pudding for you!

Nice to have “A Sleeping beauty” in our midst – only about ½ mile from us!
OG That sounds like some of the smaller distilleries that have escaped the clutches of the big boys..Diegio and Pernod Ricard. In a few years time they will make a killing because the "experts" like bespoke. On Islay a new distillery was selling the new make before 3 years for people to sample. Best used as anti freeze and cleaning the spark plug from OH's lawn mower. I have a couple of snow shovels one with an extra long hanle for getting snow off of the cottage'shed and garage roof.
From what I heard the worst of the snow was around us Glenlivet and Aberlour.
Hi to all, and welcome to Osprey. You've all been at it again, lots of news.
Love the pic of the Aureo Borealis, forgive the spelling, it is spectacular.
Wendy B and Auntie you have had snow and it is still snowing up there - down here we are very lucky. Apart from frosty mornings the snow hasn't reached us yet but there is still time. It looks like its going to possible be another hard winter~!!!!!!
Gary forgot to mention the pic of your horse - he's lovely. Not a horsey person myself but do like to see them gamboling in the fields.
Hoping to get a proper feeding station for Christmas and therefore attract more of the feathered variety of birds. Starlings were having a go at the fat balls ealier in the day and I get lots of chaffinches and the blue tits making a call.
Had choir practice tonight - we have been asked to sing traditional carols at an outreach Garden Farm for those with learning difficulties just outside the villiage I live in. It sounds as though it is going to be a marvellous experience - about 150 friends, family, and of course those who us the centre in the daytime are expected. Its not until the 17th December which is just right with only 8 days to Christmas day. My word Christmas will soon be upon us, Dec 1st next week, how time is flying by.

Let's hope that with the recession the owner can get it up and running and make a profit. I hadn't realised that the distilieries around were owned by the French or that they were selling more whisky than brandy. It would be great if the National Debt could be paid off with whisky surplus in the bonded warehouses.
OG - do hope son can find a job soon? Pudding - was that your Christmas one you had, tut, tut, if it was you'll have to make some more. Made my Christmas cakes, one for us and one for son, last week - so it is maturing, just have to add more brandy at the end of the week before finishing them off.
Afraid Margobird and Annette that I too put on fluffy socks to keep feet warm in bed. We both sleep in single beds next to each other as I am a restless sleeper and don't always need a lot of sleep so often get up in the night and go downstairs to watch a bit of tele before coming back upstairs. Strange behaviour I know but it suits me.
Try and do most of my Christmas shopping on the internet as I don't get into town much - don't drive so rely on hubby or daughter to take me in. Its so much easier on the net though.
