Hi guys this is so exciting ... well for me it is... my first blog on my new machine. Screen is amazing icons are enormous great for elderly eyes... I am so happy!!!

Wendyb    Oh congratulation on your new machine. A laptop is it?

Also a woman who knows her whisky. I would call this a Lavavulin moment. Mind you it is best to stay of the internet when comuming the liquor. waking up in the morning and windering what you wrote is not a nice feeling.

  • Wendy, LOL, sorry, didn't mean to offend you! With my computer skills, I would want someone around to watch just in case I messed up. Hope it's all working nicely. Edit-I see it is-Whoop, fantastic stuff

margobird, sounds such a nice time. really busy for you as well. Love the thought of an apple danish right now.

Joan, lovely photo's, thanks. What a sight that must have been:) Glad the police turned a blind eye to the parking:)

OG, LOL, my spelling is terrible. I didn't know I had "corrected" you! I had no idea and it wasn't intentional. Clover is now 16. So, just over middle ages for a horse, we hope. Jeep tyres probably being done tomorrow if I can sort out lifts/cars etc.

AQ, sorry you've had such a day of it:( very difficult for you. I know it's long past but I didn't get a chance to say how much I enjoyed the wedding pictures. They were fabulous:)

    LOL Tiger.

Just got a man here tuning the piano and it's giving me a headache and I hardly ever get them!

  • Sheila, As OG says. Yes, Phillips island is the same place where the TV programme was made and was shown in early September.

Wendy, Rather a late delivery for your red computer, but great to hear it arrived and that it blends in with your decor.

Margo, I can understand why you are feeling so tired. Rhys sounds a lovely little boy. Hard to believe that he will be a year old soon. You must give me some lessons on how to buy all my Christmas presents in one day. I have to admit that I have no idea what to buy for anyone yet. My daughter is usually the most difficult one as her birthday is on the 11th Dec.

Joan, Excellent pictures in spite of it being so dark. Also, so pleased you were still able to see the Ark Royal depart.

I must go to bed now, so 'see' you all tomorrow.

  • Tiger  Yes a laptop old one went to that sad scrapyard 3 weeks ago  had a lot of Tesco's vouchers to double up..saw one I liked but OH upgraded it...suits me and it makes him feel the expert. Just downloading I tunes so could be here all night.

Oh yes whisky is a very addictive thing....not just the drinking of it but the history of it. I am a Speyside girl not a west coast one. The phenols are just over the top for me and probably for most women. I did a fact finding trip to Islay (ha ha)  the only one I liked was Bruicchladich and they get there barley from the mainland (Inverness)

Quote from  OH..I am not quite as drink as some thunkle peep I am..and that's on a good day!!

  • Well, what a lot to catch up on, not posted again for a couple of days and the news pours in.

    Love all your pics.

Hope the stove arrives OK Lindybird, love the poem about being a grandma and do hope that 'sweetpea' arrives at a civilised hour but of course we all know that just isn't the case.

So many posts that I won't reply individually but loved them all.

Shiela FE will get around to pre-ordering a book soon.  Have just ordered a photo mug, at long last, and chosen a pic of EJ and Odin together which I took early on in the season. Also ordered a photo pic of steam train for my brother - he just loves the age of steam.  So look forward to seeing how they come out.

Did my weekly swim today but felt exhausted after it for some reason, just shows I don't exercise as I should.

Wendyb glad you've managed to get a new laptop. I must admit it was one of the best Christmas presents my OH bought me last year, it meant I didn't have to wait to go on his and of course could watch the action from LG.  Now whisky - once tried a liquer one on holiday in Oban many moons ago and it was delicious. Realy like Lamphoraig - I think thats the spelling - from Islay, quite smokey tasting. Only have the odd wee dram when I get it for hubby for Christmas or Birthday. Unfortunately haven't go any in at the moment. Never mind!!!!!!!!

Look forward to seeing more news from you all tomorrow.  Glad to see a date has been fixed for the Royal Wedding - end of Easter week so two bank holiday weekends in a row,. can't be bad.

  • Wendyb  You take me back to saturday 4th February 2001. That was the first time I ever met anyone from the internet. He was a Swiss guy and for some reason he was a great fan of  Scotch whisky.

We met up at 3pm and then had a meal. After that we went down to Covent Garden and found a pub called the Coach and Horses which had a large selection of Scotch malt whiskies.

We sampled five which were, Isle of Jura, Glencfarchas, Talisker,  Bunrachabair and Lagavulin.

His job was to be in charge of changing credit card limits. You can imagine he came under pressure from friends to surrepticiously increase their limits!

A very strange thing happened next day. We had a double tragedy. He had a friend swept to his death by an avalanche in the Alps.

I had a friend in Ireland die suddenly. I was hoping to see her a few weeks later when I was visiting Ireland. Her family and ours have friendly for over 100 years.

  • Evening all:  Nice rain showers interspersed with sunny periods today.

SheilaFE: You were asking about vineyards; no problem there, but the citrus orchard owners are taking precautions: spraying with warmish water early in the afternoon then running the orchard fans throughout the night to keep the air circulating.

Lindybird:  You must be hopping about with anticipation waiting for Sweetpea! I'd be unable to settle down to anything. Ooops, see you're spending your time writing lovely little poems!  Re crimplene, think of all those outfits that never wore out clogging up all the landfills!  I avoid linen like the plague since it always looks so wrinkled AND needs serious ironing in between wearings (never mind the washings!).

Diane: No predictions here - my daughter was two weeks late!   Oh dear, haven't been watching Trucker Steve lately; wish I'd got a glimpse of your neighborhood.  What were the Prez and Vice Prez doing in Indiana (don't worry about answering; I'll check it out).

jsb: Flamingo shot amazing, though I must confess a certain suspicion of "amazing" photos given our ability to manipulate images these days.

Tiger:  The choice of Westminster Abbey made the news here this evening, complete with clips of royal weddings going back to the present queen's.  Oh dear, memories of meeting a friend from the internet forever linked to subsequent tragedies.

Gary: Where do your horses typically go in winter? Florida? :-)   Have to say horses really are gorgeous creatures; there's just something about them....

Wendy:  Good you arrived in time to rescue the fieldmouse from a dizzy end! But oh, would've loved to have tried that Macallan, even though I'm a wine drinker. Tomato red computer, eh? A good color for those winter nights.

Alan: Check your wallet; chances are you'll be bailing out Ireland!  :-)

    OG: Lovely photos.

Djoan: Nice pix from pub - and from a "little" camera.

Brenda:  Re my friend, her son had to take out a restraining order against his wife because she was driving drunk with the kiddies in the car!!  Now she can only have "telephone" visits. Just awful for the kids.  Wonder why photos of penguins aren't allowed...

Margobird: Nice you had fun with Rhys - hope he continues to love those veggies.  You're so organized, I think I'll send you my Xmas shopping list. Have fun wtih all your gadding about.  Ahem, I always start off the night with those super-soft socks!

AQ: Nice to see you!  Arghhh. Teens!  A 45 minute drive to find Miss 14 MIA. Glad you were at least able to get to your lunch.

Sorry I've missed some folks. Do take care all.

  • Annette - the reason that photos are not allowed of the penguins is that the flash eventually affects their eyes and leads to blindness.  Wherever you are able to see penguins coming ashore in Australia, it is generally under supervision and warnings are issued wherever you go.  You are however able to take photos if you can disable your camera flash and use only the torch light of the guides.  As can be seen from watching such events as Wimbledon in the evenings, when the umpire has to keep reminding the spectators not to use flash photography during play, I think there are many who do not realise that it is possible to disable the flash unit.

AQ - I was lucky enough to recently see a show in Inverness of a group of British Japanese Drummers, and as you say they really have to be super fit to be able to play the BIG drums - which are played with the elbows at or slightly above shoulder level.  I was truly amazed at how long they were able to keep going at that height for so long.

WendyB - I used to stay in Glenlivet area for holidays twice a year and from where I stayed for the first 5 years up there  could see Ben Rinnes from the living room window.  I am able to see Ben Nevis from my Conservatory at the back and it is only about 1.5miles away - easily see the choppers coming in and out for rescues!!     Which Distillery did you work in as a guide?

  • Woken up to find my lawn missing.....covered in snow...so taking coffee to bed and pretend it is not there. Will blog later.

  • Morning, Everyone:  My lawn is covered in frost.  The whole area is one huge whiteness, so must have been very cold last night.

Well, we had one delivery, anyway!   The babe is still dawdling, but the oven was delivered, eventually, at 9.05pm!!!   The driver said he'd had a horrific afternoon, as he locked the keys inside the van at about 5.00pm and  for a long while no one could be found to send them a new set, so they could continue their deliveries.... they had another 5 people to deliver to, after us!!  We unwrapped the new contraption and went to bed.  Have to wait again now today for it to be connected up (its electric). We ate cold chicken, & spuds done in the microwave last night.

Our d. in law saw the midwife yesterday, and she said, if you cough twice, the baby will pop out! - so apparently she means its oven ready now!  We are still sitting by the phone waiting for news.  Our son has probably gone to work wondering when he will be a Daddy.

Glad to hear your new computer is up & running, Wendy - enjoy!
