Morning/evening all: Off to catch up on today's posts.

  • Last but not least I can't remember who posted the link to the flamingo picture but what a truly wonderful sight.

  • Wendyb - what a lovely surprise to get your red computer so late in the day!

margobird - glad you had such an enjoyable time with Rhys - he sounds a lovely little chap! Another busy few days planned I see :-)

This afternoon OH and I went along to Tynemouth to see Ark Royal sail out of the Tyne. We managed to get parked, although there were a lot of people there ... but unfortunately, it got very dark, the wind got up and there was a real cloudburst. A lot of folk (including us!) ran for their cars. We were lucky enough to be able to see her leave from our car ... the police were turning a blind eye to everyone parked on the pavements and double yellow lines!! It was too dark for photographs, but I did get one of one of the ship's helicopters which was flying round ... entertaining the crowd I think!

Diane - thanks for the info about Trucker Steve - I am watching now, and looking forward to seeing the area where you do your shopping! I took this next photo while out this afternoon ... the North pier at Tynemouth, with the waves breaking over it ... it was closed to the public for safety reasons today :-))

  • Time to make some more replies – how chatty we all are this week!

Tiger – thank you so much for the flying Swan – discovered I can copy it into sig, but will not be doing so due to flicker of wings – but I did appreciate it!  Had to look up St Catherine to make sure she was not the Catherine of firework fame!  Apparently may not have a holiday here in Scotland, it’s a devolved issue!

Brenda – have made all my Ch Cards, but not written yet in case anyone dies before Ch!  Saw the programme (narrated by Rolph Harris) about the Little Penguins on Phillip Island – fascinating.

Lindy – I agree it is cold, but it did stay dry here – rather have that than a few degrees warmer but wet.  I did enjoy your poem - keep them coming!  Love your caterpillar, whether Moth or Butterfly!  Did the stove ever arrive today??

Alan - thanks for link to Blog.

Patricia – we seem to have had increasing numbers of Baptisms recently, as well as some Blessings of babies.  Don’t know whether it indicates more believers or a rising birth-rate!

Gary – sorry you don’t yet have snow plough – and about the Jeep tyres too!  Roundabout now has curb fitted (an all day job) and they are starting to mark out little triangular refuges to guide vehicles past it – several important looking men with clipboards and mobiles looked at it all and scratched their heads today.  Electrical guys came too, but nothing to see from them yet.  Thanks for spelling of kerbsnot curbs! I knew it looked wrong but couldn’t think why!!  So lovely to see photo of dear Clover – how is she now?

Dibnlib – hope next four weeks passes quickly for you – you’ve endured it very well so far!

Joan – lovely photo of lunchtime Blue Tits – I wish we had more of them here.  Should remember your birthday next year!  So pleased you were able to see Ark Royal leave – loved the evening picture of helicopter – who is the statue?  And also the sea breaking on the pier.

Wendy – how good to have a walk along the Spey – which way, up- or down-stream?  So glad you got the wee mousey out – made me think of when Fireman Uncle had to try to rescue child from corn silo – but not a happy ending.  Our Banks Hols are also peculiar because, being near the border, we have some English  and others Scottish – and sometimes both!  Will be looking to see whether your Ben has grown next time we are up!  Do you mind the computer turning out to be red rather than pink?  I suppose it doesn’t really need to match your gym kit!!

Sheila – easy to identify the Barnacles in flight when you know there are about 10,000 of them there!!!  They will be happily grazing until a BoP or a plane spooks them and they all take to the air with a tremendous clatter of wings.  “The Man who went up a Hill and Came down a Mountain” was a very good film, I watched it twice, and it’s very unusual for me to willingly watch any film, and rarer for me to stay awake right through!

Diane – I’ve not seen much of BRSteve recently – he took a break and I forgot about him!  Just snuck a look – big open Indiana sky.

Margo – hello there!  Pleased you enjoyed Rhys yesterday – sounds a great little chap.  Do take care after the busy shopping day – glad it was successful, but I don’t know how you can do it all in one day like that!  Ooh – just seen you are having more fun trips this week – do take care!

Sorry this got so long - great to have so many lovely people to reply to!

Forgot to predict gender this morning: Little girl Sweetpea will arrive 4:55am Wednesday

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good evening DjoanS pleased you managed to see the Ark Royal again and what a good pic of the helicopter, very atmospheric against the dark sky.  Nice pic of the pier too.   I love to watch a rough sea from a safe distance though.

I keep thinking I must get to bed soon otherwise I will be on my knees by Saturday when we go up to London to see Legally Blonde for OH's birthday.  Have just been out putting food and mild out for my little stray Billy Whizz, hope he finds somewhere to keep reasonably warm as it is very cold tonight.  Think there will be a frost in the morning.

  • Good evening original goldfinch and I have to stay I am wilting a bit now.  You don't realise how far you walk when out shopping but I am pleased my legs behaved themselves by not aching which they often do.  It is always fun each year when my sister and I go to do the Christmas shop.  OH says he doesn't know how we manage to do such a lot in a relatively short space of time.  We had a nice lunch which we finished off with an Apple Danish which was so nice.

I will predict Sweet Peas's arrival at 2.10am Thursday.

  • Well walk up and then down back home or down and then back up home. I sometimes walk down to Aberlour for my paper it is 13 miles and then phone OH to pick me up. Only do that Autumn or Spring views good as no leaves.

New PC maybe red but matches some of my soft furnishings. Gym clothes are black it is the bits and pieces that are pink.

    Even after 9 years some of the goings on and language is still a mystery;

    Dustbin men are Scaffies.

Pocket is a Pooch(another joke for my distillery tour)

I could go on for ever but not tonight.

  • OG - the statue is Admiral Lord Collingwood, born in Newcastle! The statue is huge ... on a plinth, with steps at the base, and has four cannon ... from his ship The Royal Sovereign, I believe. This website shows some photographs to give an idea of size:

  • Linda - I speed read to find . . . no news of Sweetpea. I bet mother is getting fed up with the wait.

Sheila - Once November comes we can expect hot weather (especially in exam week) mixed with cool days. (Erm, the cool days are mid-20s C.) Yesterday it reached 36 C, overnight 23, today "cooler" at 30 but humid which I hate. Rather like English summers! Morgan is about 100 miles NE of Adelaide. It is the town where the River Murray abruptly changes direction from west to south. In the olden days of riverboat transport it was an important port, now a sleepy town.

OG - Great pic of tufted duck with water droplets.

So site is "off" 50% of the time. I reckon it is higher judging by my success rate!!! I have double reason to look forward to Dec 7, that’s the day Dau1 returns.

Annette - Yes Miss14 is always pressing the boundaries, more so with her aunt. Yesterday was one of those episodes in "Days of our Lives". It started at 1.40 am with call from Dau1’s security company. An alarm had gone off in one room. As Dau1 hadn’t given us the code (she apparently meant to), all I could do was ring Dau2 to investigate. All was well, door came open, cat got in. I hadn’t slept well and did not appreciate 7.45 am call that Miss14 was tired and staying home from school. OK I said I would go & teen-sit. I arrived after ¾ hour drive to find empty house & a note. As Dau2 was delivering g-son to school she discovered he had lost his key, she home to fetch hers, only to find Miss14 not sleeping but watching DVD & chatting on Facebook. She was then sent to school. By now Dau2 was late for work & a meeting. I turned around and drove home. Thank goodness I hadn’t yet rung friend to cancel our lunch. I made it just in time. Last night a rather subdued Miss14 rang to apologise. This is her week of final exams for the year. BTW a hunt after work/school found 2 lost keys!
