Evening/Morning all: Off to check out recent posts.

  • ps.  Thanks for all the good wishes for ourselves & our d. in law, who is now reporting that the baby is trying to get out by swimming wildly!!  Def. going to be a future Olympic athlete.

  • sorry BRENDA  don't do anything quickly at the mo, so no chance of sunset pic. I am just hogging the delight of it all to myself.  actually it is now dark and think that even if I were mobile I would have been too late for pic.

LINDY  best wishes to you and yours when the time comes. think I am right that they elected not to know whether boy or girl. Only know one couple who did and they said the reason was because Mum was over 40 and they had a son and desperately wanted a daughter. Emma was the result i am plased to say.

  • Glad you enjoyed the sunset, dibnlib.  They are so fleeting sometimes, all gone in a few minutes, but so lovely!

Thanks also for your good wishes.

Anyone who likes happy ending, see the BBC page re the elephants:

      --  amazing pics!

  • Didnlib  What a difference a few miles make as no sighting of anything resembling a sun seen anywhere  on our patch of Speyside. Took OH into Elgin shopping....so not out long as it is his least favorite hobby!!

We seem to spend most of our time filling our bird feeders...I have 4 large dustbins (3 purple 1 pink) full of seeds nuts and fat balls. Spent a fortune last Saturday..took OH then as he has is uses with my back problem..thinking it would all last for ages but not too sure now.

  • Linda, I had seen that one about the elephant but I do worry about the elephant''s trunk and how badly injured it was. You may guess, I love elephants.

dibnlib, I was thinking that you were sitting by a window and could maybe capture the scene. So glad you were able to enjoy it though.

Our daughter has spent a couple of days with us and returned home this afternoon. We have enjoyed a couple of meals out and some retail therapy. She also insisted on a visit to the coast. It was extremely cold and I really felt that I should have worn boots and gloves, but I hate to dress for winter yet, just walk quicker !

Still waiting to see some waxwings. They seem to be spreading around the country now, but none here yet.

  • Brenda:  You may have seen a previous report about a much younger elephant who was in the same predicament.  He was saved by all the older ones coming to his aid, & stamping their feet by the croc until he let go!  Must be painful for the ele's, as such a sensitive part of their anatomy.

  • Roadworks are chaotic - and it is now barrier, cone and pole city - the roundabout has a circular trench around it - looks like an anti-donut!   We have three-way traffic lights around our corner.  Another laugh - yesterday they pulled up one of the poles they had planted and have now put it in a different place, and this morning we were watching a man measuring the circumference of  the roundabout by pacing it and apparently forgetting where he started - he went round three times!

Had a great time at Caerlaverock - loads of pics - will sort through some to post.  Weather was really good until we were leaving, as darkness fell and we felt a little dampness - there had actually been more rain at home.  Also enjoyed leek and potato soup, hot chocolate and carrot cake while we were out.

Lindy - I hope you soon get the phonecall and that stove delivery does not prevent you seeing Sweetpea at earliest opportunity.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

Interesting report over at Birdforum of an osprey taking a blue crab. Some really good pictures. See  osprey takes blue crab.

Amazing shots Tiger. I would never have thought an osprey would take a crab...but then, why not?

Of course we have no way of knowing the outcome.  A crab would be harder to deal with than a fish when it came to eating it.
