Evening/Morning all: Off to check out recent posts.

  • When I first saw that ring I thought "that looks like Diana's". Then I heard that it did not just look like Diana's ring it was Diana's ring.  I think it is a truly awful idea given even it were not for the baggage associated with that ring.

Diane  Yes Chloe's artistic creations are rather good.

Alicat   Love the new sig. Great that you got it all sorted.

As many of you will know Great Horned Owls and ospreys are not great mates as GHOs prey on ospreys.

  • patriciat:   How exciting to see a red squirrel in a garden!  I would be forever looking out, if I had your view!  So glad they are returning.  Do tell us if you get to see one in your garden, or even to snap one! on your feeders!

I made a quite spectacular Pumpkin Pie the other day, as all the pumpkins are being sold off now, more cheaply.  I use an American recipe, which is like a deep tart, rather than a lidded pie.  Yummy! (but not good for the dieting, it has of course sugar, and evaporated milk, in it. Still, it will be all gone soon...)

  • Been thinking more about that ring.  Did he imply that that woman would always be present, as a third person in the marriage?  The young man needs therapy for that, or the marriage doesn't stand a chance!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Chloe  I am in two minds about the ring.  Initially when it was introduced I thought oh that's nice, a bit of history being passed down, an heirloom.  But when Wills said he wanted his mother to be a part of it all I began to feel uncomfortable, particularly as the questions to Kate on her feelings about Diana were pursued.  She was almost lost for words about a woman she had never met.   A spectre, I wonder?  Would she have preferred to make her own choice of ring?   She clearly had no idea about it if Wills was carrying it in his rucksack for three weeks prior to asking her to marry him!  However, I still think they are very well suited and clearly know each other well after 9 or 10 years, and are very much in love ('whatever that means', to quote his father!!!).

  • Tiger  I had no idea that GHOwls would prey on osprey.  I assume that is in North America were both would live.  Certainly their diet is very varied from tiny mammals to herons, so given that, I guess it is not surprising.  I read that, like many owls, GHO are nocturnal, and so roosting osprey would provide an ideal target!

Edit:  I have also just read that GHOs can be used to lure osprey for capture - presumably to ring.

  • Good Morning All. Grey and raining here, with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast.

Patriciat, lovely that you saw a red squirrel. We see plenty of the grey variety and all of our bird feeders are now squirrel proof. They are planting acorns all over the garden right now. I have put a nut feeder for them in the woods. I see you are still getting heavy rain, so I hope all is fine with you.

George, Best wishes for the Birthday celebrations.

Diane, Lovely choice of pictures for Annette. As she spends so much of her time tending her roses, I prefer the single rose pictures, 3 and 4.

Linda, My brother recently moved house and found that the previous owner had left a large sideboard/ display cabinet and the local YMCA took it. They teach boys to restore furniture and then sell it. Your local church may also help the homeless and may find a home for your piece.

I am also happy that William and Kate are now engaged, at last, but I am not sure about the ring. It obviously means a lot to William and I presume Kate is happy to wear it, but to choose your engagement ring is always something special and personal. The ring is a symbol of a very unhappy marriage and I hope Kate didn't feel obliged to accept it.

  • Tried to stay out of the 'ring' debate:   but I felt straight away,  that as it is so obvious that he is deeply in love, he felt that it was the strongest gesture he could make in giving her the 'Diana' ring as she, his mother, was such a strong influence & of course a much loved figure in his life, and will always be in his mind, and so he was demonstrating his deep abiding love for Kate by giving it to her.  As someone said, it is traditional to recycle jewellery in the Royal Family, and good for them in doing that, too!

  • Morning all,

What.s all this about a wedding? I must have missed it on the news. LOL

Patriciat : Lucky you to have a red squirrel. They are all greys around here with the odd black one.

Diane : Nice avatars for Annette. I also like the first 2.

GeorgeG : I am glad you had a nice time in Forres. Its one of my favourite places to visit when I am in the area. I hope the birthday meal goes well.

Everyone else thanks for the chat.

Very dull, damp and dreich this morning with less wind than yesterday. Temps about average.

Cleared some leaves out of the front garden this morning as the weeping cherry has now shed most of them. Stll a few geraniums flowering in the garden and I am reluctant to get rid of them. Not many birds around today, only seen 2 collared doves on the feeders so far. Also did some shredding this morning. It is amazing how quickly paperwork builds up.

    Have a good thursday.

  • PATRICIAT   good news that a red squirrel si in you area. lets hope there are a few more.

  • afternoon all. Sorry I'm not contributing very much at the moment but I'm enjoying all the posts.

Can't say I'm moved one way or the other about the ring. Maybe it's a man thing (opps, just seen Tiger's commented! lol)

Diane, love the pictures for Annette. I personally love the whale's tail. Something "timeless" about that:)

Linda, let us know what  you think about the film. We're thinking of taking MIL when she comes out in Dec.
