Evening/Morning all: Off to check out recent posts.
Afternoon all:
Thanks for all the earlier chat and pic of woodpecker Diane.
This morning we went to Peterborough Garden Park and had a wander round Van Hage. All the usual Christmas stuff and I notice they are going to have an outdoor skating rink there from 27th Nov onwards. After that we went to The Walled Garden Centre at Elton for a spot of lunch. Weather is dull and cold with temp no higher than 7c. Just took Hamish out for a walk and now going to watch football somewhat buoyed by Dundees 3-0 win away from home yesterday. Undefeated since we went into administration. It looks like the lads are going to make a fight of it.
Have just messed up my last 2 posts so 3rd time lucky.
OH gave an excellent reading at Rembrance Service this am and it was a very good service all round including an insight from our Dutch Christian Community Worker of what it was like to live in Holland during WW2. I was based at Wildenrath for 2 years during the 70s and then and still today it was so obvious that the Dutch had gratitude in bucketfuls to the Allies for their liberation. Came home with a leaflet of sayings from a remarkable dutch lady called Corrie ten Boom who watched her sister die a slow and painful death at Ravensbruck so I will leave you with this one. "Joy runs deeper than dispair" Till later
Morning all and happy Sunday. We're having a spell of really nice weather but that's due to end tomorrow with showers in the forecast.
Annette, sorry about going to the horse show the wrong weekend! We've had friends that have done that and turned up with the horse! lol Sounds a nice day anyway. I think we are missing that storm but Diane may be in it's path.
Diane, thanks for the woodpecker photo. We have them this side and they make such a row. They are BIG as well. Glad one's making a home near you:) Well done on getting your dad to eat yogurt. I would need to be very ill to eat it! Yuck:(
Dibnlib, sounds a lovely service
Linda, Chloe, Alan and Tiger, good afternoon:)
Hoping to hear from AQ soon, see how the day went:)
Just a big thankyou to Tiger, Alan and ChloeB for all the help you gave OH in getting my signature up and running. OH is calling it a demnted penguin...it just makes me chuckle.
It also is a good omen I hope fo a better week as last week the bad bits came in the much heralded 3.
First my computer came up with the "blue screen of death"..Googles description not mine. The kiss of life was to no avail so it has gone to that sad scrapyard in the sky.
Secondly it was my back...have a history of problems but going to the gym and doing a few classes there and a swim is normally enough to keep it supple. Not last week picked up a bag and it went into spasm and seized up. Super local doctor so an injection of diazapam and painkiller. Still on happy pills and went into Inverness today for swim so it can only get better.
Thirdly getting ready for an Xray at our local little hospital and I broke a tooth. These things always happen on a Friday. Dentist in Aberlour fitted me in within an hour of panic phone call and now all sorted.
Driving back from Inverness there were some super skies so it was looking good for Loch Gartens goose watch. Snow on tops so I am sure they will be skiing somewhere.
Hope everyone has had a really good Sunday.
Tiger: Ha! Just Googled #4 to find out the husband is dead if his wife is a widow. Duh!
Chloe: As you say, a dead loss. Very clever! :-)
Brenda: Per Diane's post, missed the bit about someone being killed by a falling tree. Awful indeed - not what you'd expect in the normal course of your day. :-(
Diane: Nice your woodpecker is overwintering in spite of his yelling at you when you take out the trash. Sorry to hear your Dad isn't wild about yogurt - I'm sure you've tried to make it appealing... I've seen some of the Great Migration programs and the magazine has that topic as its cover this month. A propos of nothing, KCET - the Los Angeles station with the largest Public Television audience in the country I believe - is opting out of its contract with the Public Broadcasting Corporation as of January 1. They say the cost of the programs is too expensive. I can't believe it in that they're going to drop the PBS Newshour, Nova, and Frontline - three of the best programs on television. No idea what we in SoCal are going to do for thoughful telly news (watch online?) I shot off multiple e-mails (along with everyone else between here and Mexico) and got a response saying they're keeping the "best" of PBS's programs, but their new lineup looks suspiciously like cut-rate deals and reruns from the BBC and other UK stations. Awful. At least there's NPR...
dibnlib: Will that certificate for ITALL qualify you to teach literacy to adults? Sounds very grand. Good luck with the Tuesday hospital visit - and getting rid of the "stookie" (cast or brace?) before Christmas. You must be proud of OH's reading at the memorial service. Good for him! But can't bear to think of what some people suffered in the camps.
Gary: Can't imagine showing up with a horse in tow.....
Wendyb: Read that thread and all the exchanges. Good for you and OH. Sounds like waaaay too much work for me! Hope back behaves itself without more ado.
Off to get organized. Take care all.
Sounds like a rotten week WENDY agree with the terrible 3s as my break is a 3 - tib fib and ankle joint. Wonder where you use the gym/swim? I am a member of DW in the retail park and will be going to use disabled facilities though will not be swimming or gyming till the new year I am afraid. I have a friend who is a nurse at The Ian Charles which I presume is the little local hosp you are refering to.
Love the demented penguin and lots of much better luck for this week. Had intended to go to goose roost at LG on 7th or 14th but have now put that on hold till next year.
Hi all not posted for a couple of days. So much to catch up on but have now done so now.
Chloe B - re starling photo link for DM, the pic in the DT was very similar but the other way around so whether they have just turned the pic around not sure but both spectacular anyhow.
Alan and Chloe B - Never thought to go to terms and conditions to vote but if it is now closed I can't do much about it, lets hope he is in with a chance.
Auntie - nice to see you back with us and hugs and kissed to you and all
Diane in Indiana - love the pic of the pileated woodpecker- he seems a handsome bloke.
dibnib - glad to see your Remeberance Day service went off well. So did ours and even the colour parties remembered to hold back until the crossbearer and choir had gone before them. It is always a moving service and in particular there are about 6 members of one family and 5 members of another on the list for lives lost in the Great War for the village of Moulton which is where I worship. Quite a number. I always remember my dad's colleague who was killed beside him on D-day. Dad was on the Battleship Ramillies one of a few doing the bombardments so that our troops could land. Always poignant.
Went out for a meal last night with colleagues of OH's. He comments on cricket matches at our County Ground for the Northamtonshire Association for the Blind. Anyhow, we had to become members of the Casino and were given a £10 chip voucher to use. After the meal we all went up to the games room and had a go!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH managed to win over and above the stake he was given and he managed to win almost the whole of my stake, so all in all, not a bad evening. Needless to say we cashed in the chips for cash and that was it. You do see another side of life at these places though.. Still the meal was very good and reasonable so might just go for that next time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not a lot been happening down here, weather's been dry, misty, and a little damp
ALL - have a great week and Happy Monday.

RSPB Giving Nature a Home
ANNETTE the course is run by Adult Basic education and is aimed at helping people gain tutorial skills to enable them to work with people who have literacy/numeracy difficulties. "Stookie" is a plaster cast. Did you see the film "The Reader", it shows someone walking through a concentration camp some time after everyone had been freed. Cages full of belongings of those who had been gassed were left there (specs, footwear and much more) Although it was a film I found it very difficult to stem the tears.
LYNETTE Guess OH is probably one of only a few to come out of a casino with a smile on their face so well done.. We visited Las Vegas for an overnight stay en route elsewhere. OH described it as obscenely interesting. Think we lost a massive $6 between us and were glad to move on. We really went for sights like The Grand Canyon and Yosemite and not the big cities.
Didnlib that sounds really really painful and I can understand your frustration at inactivity.
Yes same gym love the spinning classes and the pool. My nearest gym is Elgin and I do go to the classes every now and then but I think I am a bit of a snob as I have never used the showers so it is worth the extra journey for a little bit of luxury.
My Doctor...a super one man band.. is based in Glenlivet so I went to Dufftown as they do X rays once a week on a Friday. Much nicer tha Dr Grays in Elgin and so much easier to park.
So maybe we could catch up in coffee shop sometime.
Same here think about going to goose watch and it is only 20 mins up the road but never made. As you say always next year.
