Evening all: Off to check previous week's posts.

  • Afternoon all ... a horrible day here ... only made better by the fact we went out for lunch! I was very good and only had about half a dozen of my chips ... OH ate the rest!!

I wasn't able to get near the computer last night or this morning ... OH has been busy with photographs. He had a very interesting day up at Alnwick Castle yesterday. There was a Northern Junior Chef competition, and he was asked to take the photographs ... contestants, preparation, cooking and finished dishes. I did offer to carry his camera bags but I wasn't allowed!!!

margobird - that is very sad news about your OH's friend ... I hope he doesn't linger in pain. Thanks for the link to the eagle owl cam.

OG - I had to sign in with my password today too. Your Book Festival Day sounded interesting, even if parts were a bit dry!

Gary - glad you enjoyed your trip ... and Happy Birthday to your mum!! I hope she has a safe journey home.

AQ - lovely description of Jasper being a 'scaredy-cat'!

patriciat - sorry you bumped your head ... my favourite trick in the house is closing a door behind me and leaving my fingers in the way! Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks to all for chat, links etc.

    Take care.

  • Gary, just popped in to wish your Mum, A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY.  I am sure she won't mind an extended holiday, as long as she is not stuck in the airport.

We went out for lunch and then bought myself a pair of shoes and then went into East, just to have a look around, and came out with three jumpers and two pair of trousers for the winter. I had no intention to clothes shop but I am now pleased I looked.

Alicat, you will enjoy Roy's book and you will find that you will refer to it during the season.

  • lol, thanks OG, Joan and Brenda. I'll pass on your best wishes.

OK , off to do some more eating. Going back to the coastal town of Mystic to see the ships one last time on this trip.

  • Have you seen this video? The driver is on a mobility scooter.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpaLmIIzJC8

Sorry, you will have to copy and paste the link, as it won't copy over.

  • Huh. That's weird; had to sign in to post that I have no time to respond to all the posts (where've you all been!).  :-)  Back later.

  • HEATHER B   knew Jimmy through OHs previous work in hotel management. Well known cos of Girvans of course where he was very "hands on".  Hardly know Fiona but feel so sad for the whole family.

Just caught up with fact OG that you have lost a friend as well, so very sorry.

Must sign off now as have to go out this evening

Hello all - yes, what the heck is happening? No wonder it has been quiet on here--- Just lucky that I remembered my password. So I am not losing it yet, then ? I hope that we won't have to sign in every time.

dibnlib, I don't know Jimmy's family but Fiona's sister and family live round the corner from us.  Her husband is a Merchant Navy Captain, ex colleague of my stepson.

georgeg - Sometimes I think that Horlicks really helps my chronic insommnia. Do you remember the advert 'Guards against night starvation'?

Gary - Happy birthday to Mum!

Margobird - So sorry about OH's friend. Time may be short.

Horrible wet day here, OH is starting vine pruning.

The BEST news of our day is that SiL flies out of Afghanistan tonight, to Cyprus for a day or two - sort of unwinding - and home late Friday evening. All the families will be at the barracks to welcome the boys home. I can't tell you how excited my daughter and her children are! Daughter was worried about keeping the children up so late but there is no school next day.

  • THERE IS A BLOG FROM RICHARD THAXTON.

  • Thanks, Brenda - have just been to have a look.  Nice to know that Rothes is still OK!  Well done on winning the quizzes.

Gary:  Happy Birthday to Mum, and hope the storm tomorrow is not too bad for you all.

HeatherB:  Wonderful news for your family, I'm not surprised that the children are excited!

I''m off  to get a hot drink now, and then a welcome Off to Bed for me.  Goodnight All.

  • Son had his toe op today – reports all well.  Doc introduced him to the nurse as a “surgery veteran”, because of his previous medical history!  Looks like he gets his key to new flat this Friday and moves in the following Friday, when the landlord has been able to get it cleaned up for him!  He’s still negotiating over how much furniture they leave and therefore how much he can move in – he’d really prefer all his own modern stuff.  He has measured for the fridge-freezer and it’s too deep for his downstairs alcove, so staying here, but I believe the kitchen there has a bigger fridge than the one in his old flat.

George - OH always had Horlicks for winter bedtime, but doesn’t fancy it any more.  I used to find it too heavy.  I hope the floods won’t affect you – good that you had already shopped and called in on SiL.  Pleased you enjoyed the Raptors at Kirkcaldy market – and had the visit from Sparrowhawk – lovely birds.  Our Pigeon No-Tail has reappeared with a little tufty bit of a tail – unless this is yet another one with damage.  Alan has been posting on other threads – I hope he will soon feel able to chat again.

Joan – pleased you were able to cheer up a miserable day with lunch out.  We shall be returning for two items at the Book Festival this Saturday.

Brenda – I think unintended clothes purchases are often best, when there is no pressure to “find something that’ll do”.  Be assured, I don’t carry carpets on my mobility scooter!  Thanks for alert to Richard’s blog.

Heather – so pleased for your Daughter that her husband is on his way home – difficult having to wait to Friday night, but that does mean the children can stay out late to greet him.

Lindy – and “Goodnight” to you too.  Sleep well.

Must away to my bed too – got a lot done today, another busy one at home tomorrow.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
