Hi all. Off to read last few posts of previous week.

  • Good morning original goldfinch and I love the pics of "Fatty", what a gorgeous little bird.  I am noticing the birds are now singing a different song and we have a pair of robins and numerous bluetits showing up now as they all start looking for a new home for nest year.  Just wonderful to go in the garden and hear them all singing away.

Weather here not that good after all the lovely days we have had, very heavy rain for a while this morning with more thundery showers on the way. At least my lawns have fully recovered now and look very green indeed.  Amazing how quickly grass recovers.

  • Good morning aquilareen and what a shame the newly weds are minus their luggage.  Hope they manage to reconnect with it soon.  What a pain for them.

  • Good morning ALICAT hope you managed to keep your electric.  We had a power cut a few weeks ago whch is most unusual here and it makes you realise how much we take it for granted.  Fortunately it was only off for about an hour.

  • original goldfinch thanks for the news of the osprey sighting in Brittany.  So good to read there are more breeding sites for these wonderful birds.  Hope we will get another live streaming cam next year from Caerlaverock  although I am not sure how I am going to keep up with everything if this does happen.  Not complaining though I could watch ospreys all the time.

  • Good mroning Paul and glad you found your battery charger.  Don't worry this sort of thing happens to me all the time.  My favourite is putting my glasses down and not being able to find them.  I have usually put them somewhere very strange.  I put it down to my advancing years.  Have a good day and pleased you enjoy the colours of Autumn.  I like them too but not the weather that comes with it.

  • Hello everyone and many thanks for all your interesting posts, pics and links.

A miserable morning here, rain for most of the night and I'm not sure it has finished yet!  I have resorted to soup making - don't make it a lot in the so called Summer months. Yesterday I made cream of mushroom and also a pot of vegetable soup, the latter has gone into the freezer.

It has been interesting to read of Valc and others' family tree tracing/stories.  I have never done any, because two of my family members are very keen on genealogy and have produced trees for my mother and father's families. The material I referred to earlier, about Culloden, etc refers to the family of my late husband. However I find the subject fascinating and knowing something of our forebears certainly brings things to life. A well used phrase but true.( Tried to spell the word pronounced 'clee shay 'but haven't got my spelling head on today).

AQ - When you mentioned 'field=paddock' I had to smile. A few years ago OH and I attended the wedding of his niece in deepest Aberdeenshire. The next day we were invited to a barbecue at one of the family farms. As we arrived the farmer's wife said 'Did you see the loons (young lads) on your way here? They went off to play football in the park.' I replied that I hadn't seen a park on the way to the farm-- Everyone burst out laughing because I hadn't realised that 'park' is the local word for field!  I thought that they meant a playing area with swings and roundabouts, etc.

Annette - I don't think there are many families who don't have crises. We have had so many that I now work on the principle that the bigger the family the more crises there will be - numbers theory. Either that or I am the matriarch of a very dysfunctional group of people :-))

OG - Loved the pic of 'Fatty'

Emma P - I join with everyone in hoping that Steed gets lucky, soon. Job security is a thing of the past it seems. My youngest SiL is in the Air Force in Morayshire and they are all wondering about the outcome of the latest Defence Review.

Diane - What a beautiful pic of the turkey, and thankyou for Autumn good wishes.

Margobird - You are indeed fortunate with your

OH!!!   I love mine to bits but as  I've said before, his domestic repertoire is limited to occasional veg peeling and fruit salad making. I have been known to describe the fridge to him as 'that tall rectangular object in the corner.' I am pretty sure though, that if I was unwell he would come up trumps. I have just told him what I have written and he burst out laughing and said that he would probably phone one of the daughters!

Before I go, must tell you all that SiL in Afghanistan is approaching the end of his deployment. Fingers crossed, I will post you when he is safely home. Thank you again for all your nice words earlier this year, regarding both him and all our young men and women in the Armed Forces.
