Weekly Chat, Sunday August 29, 2010

Hallo everyone. Just started this but now off to actually read recent posts!

  •  Brenda H  How awful that your neighbours'daughter can't cope with her new baby.  i know this happens.  A friend of ours, who had waited some time for a child, panicked when she brought the baby home and never had another.  Hope all goes well - she'll obviously need a lot of support from husband and family.

Alicat Your little man is gorgeous - is he quite young?  Sorry about his bad ear, I always worry when mine have to have ear treatment. Sorry - have just looked again and see that he is 15, same age as my Nell.  She has a recurring cyst which has to be emptied so I know how you feel!

thanks patriciat, i always worry now when i have to take him to the vets now that he is 15 always thinking they might say to have him put down which im dreading

  •  Alicat Don't let the vet tell you you have to have Casper put down - you'll know yourself when the time comes.  I had one collapse and die (unexpectedly) on a walk but had to decide about the other 3 - I was totally aware that it was time.  Thinking about you and Casper.  Hope his ear is OK.

  • Hi folks, not been on at all today till now.  Just caught up with the news,  Glad to see Earl is downgraded now to a Tropical Storm.

    Alan , super picture.

You've all brought in news of some sort, not much to tell here except...................you've guessed...........been doing the tapestry. So left it till tonight to come on.

Off to  church in the morning, then home and do a roast dinner for OH and daughter.

Daughter still lives at home, can't really afford a place of her own on the salary she's on.  A fully qualified Nursery Nurse and only on minimum wage - I think that's appalling. Apparently the firm won't pay them any more, it seems they don't appreciate the fact that these people who work at nursery have worked hard to qualify.  They only see it as a buisness.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!      I rest the case.

  • Alan, as always, you're too quick for me! lolol

OG, thanks for the outfit info:) Sorry about your run in with the 4x4. That could have been very nasty. That farmers market sounds lovely.

Patriciat, thanks for the info re your dogs. Sounds like they keep you busy all year.

Lynette, super news about the tapestry. Have that finished in no time:) The caring professions tend to be not well paid. Doesn't make sence, as you say, a lot of training and dedication is required.

Well, been a nice sunny, fresh day today, the heat and humidity has been blown away for a bit which is nice.

  • Fathers Day. I wish all the fathers a very happy day. A pity for those who planned BBQs here as it is still raining. Very blustery last night.

Gary - As Terry explained, we have 2 daus, 2 weddings in next 2 months. Definitely need 2 outfits - you should have seen the looks I got when I jokingly suggested wearing the same to both!!!!!! Dau#2’s wedding is Sat week (Eeeeeek so soon!!!!!) and Dau#1 in mid Nov.

Terry - I dare say there will a photo or two . . . or zillions. Himself has just bought a wee shirt-pocket-sized camera for the occasion, though how is he going to use it escorting Dau#1 down the aisle? Dau#2 has a camera permanently in hand (she’s a bridesmaid). Fsil#1 also is permanently attached to you-know-what. My camera is joining the party. Oh, there's an official photographer too.

Diane - The NZ quake doesn’t affect Aust, except for any tourists visiting there. Sewing buttons - Once upon a time I helped at my girls’ primary school when the teacher had a series of craft & other activities. I taught them to make a simple stuffed animal. Some basic stitches plus sewing buttons on for eyes. One boy was an unwilling participant. I believe he had said "no" to everything and got dumped in my group. "Why do I need to sew on a button? I’m going in the army." Quickly another helping mother told him he would have to sew his own buttons in the army. He quietened down after that!!!

OG - My first experience of a Farmers Market was in Orton, Westmorland which I was visiting (ancestral village). How lucky was I to pick that day.

Heather - Healthcare in 1800s was not good. No antibiotics, no needles to prevent certain diseases, no understanding of the connection between health & sanitation. Lots of opium-based medicine. I guess it was the same in UK. I have more bits to share from the diary but will save that for another day.

No sign of Margobird - good - she must be in Cornwall.

A friend gave me a pair of Gonk bookends for my 21st. Since the bookshelves are so crammed full that bookends are unnecessary, I have no idea where the white-haired Gonk has gone. Here is the survivor.
