Hallo everyone. Just started this but now off to actually read recent posts!
Hazel b said: Interesting news from the Loch of the Lowes blog. Excellent news this morning about one of our previous ospreys chicks born here at Lowes, which has been sighted in Dumfries andd Galloway. The female chick was hatched here in 2001 and is a daughter of our wonderful lady and her previous mate ‘Eric’. Isn’t it wonderful to think of her descendants out there helping repopulate new areas of Scotland!

Very interesting indeed. But I am wondering how that osprey was identified? I thought none of Marge's offspring were ringed? I clearly must've been wrong about that.
my photos in flickr
Auntie - They haven't ringed the LOTL chicks in recent years, but have done so in the past.
Tiger, Auntie, Sue:
I am not sure whether these "Perthshire chicks" (one aged 9, other aged 11) being reported from D & G are actually adding to our nesting population here, or whether these reports (both August) are migrating birds among the many which pass though at this time of the year!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Morning Everyone - I'm almost in tears as I just spent over 20 minutes writing thanks to you All for my birthday wishes plus a l o n g description of my meal out last night, Plus lots of reples to you All- and now I've pressed something and lost the lot! - and now I have to go out again!! AAAaaaaaargh!
Good Morning All.
Annette, I hear so many people say how energising they find yoga classes. It will be interesting to hear what you think. My sister started pilate classes and each time I speak to her, she seems to have found somewhere else that now aches!
Interesting following the book conversation between AQ and Annette. As the money from Tony Blair's book is going to the charity for soldiers, I think I will buy it, just to see what he says about the war; His relationship with Gordon Brown and many more issues, I would like to see if he has answered.
Diane, I saw a report on hurricane Earl on our news this morning and how it is heading towards the East Coast. It must be so frightening for those people in it's path, just waiting for it to land. I add my good wishes to those people also. I will check out your Monteray Bay site later.
Alan, I hope you have had some good news about your S-i-L. Sorry that poor Hamish is still suffering with his ears.
Linda, Sorry you lost all your reply this morning, but I am sure you had a great time last night.
We are both off for our blood tests. Nothing wrong with us, just our annual Health MOT. We haven't eaten since 8.30pm last night so feeling rather peckish at the moment. 'Speak ' later.
Happy 1st September everybody – another lovely day here.
Joan – I hope you enjoyed your lunch out - and saw plenty of birds on the car park to photograph. That newspaper photo of the Siberian Tigers was really impressive – thanks.
Lindy – sorry I was out yesterday and unable to wish you a Happy Birthday – I hope that you had a really good day, and an excellent meal – I love Italian food. Sorry to read about your “lost post” this morning – hope you have a pleasant day out today.
Alan – sorry Hamish is still suffering with his ears – I know it is almost inevitable with Spaniels, but sorry he has to have another lot of drops so soon. Lovely glossy colours show well on the back of your uncooperative Lapwing! Good shot of Osprey too. We also saw flocks of goldfinches come down to drink at Caerlaverock.
Emma – I hope your Daughter’s passage through the airport went smoothly and that you are not too anxious as you wait to hear she has landed.
Diane – you put together such lovely cards – and poppies so well chosen for Lindy. How lovely to see the doe and fawn so near the house! Thanks for Monterey Bay link – have seen the Kelp Forest before, but not the Waders. Re splash back info – we had considered real granite, but decided that is too much investment at our age! Read about Hurricane Earl when it was around Virgin Islands, but hadn’t realised it was turning into the US coast – so adding my good wishes to East Coast inhabitants.
Lynette – good that you can get some exercise swimming – I can’t swim and walking is very limited (used scooter quite a lot yesterday) so I get hardly any exercise. I am lucky that I can still do a bit in the garden (not too much at once) and get some fresh air that way.
Annette – hi! The thought of yoga makes me ache! I once went to start an exercise class with a friend – she ended up with her neck in a collar, and neither of us ever went back! Read news report this morning about a 12acre fire in Orange County – started by a golfer striking a rock with an iron while trying to retrieve a ball from the rough! Maybe golfers need to add a fire extinguisher to their kit!
Auntie - loved your Poppy pic for Lindy too!
Brenda – when we have fasting cholesterol tests here, our appointments are always made first on the list, so we don’t have to wait too long to eat again.
Afternoon all ... been a good day here ... mainly sunny, although cooler than yesterday, and we had a sea fret this morning.
We had a lovely lunch yesterday and saw plenty of birds at the feeders in the car park. Alas, they didn't cooperate for any photographs ... too many people walking around! We chose a table where we could watch them while having our meal, and were hugely entertained by a woodpecker and his antics.
Brenda H - hope all went well with your blood tests ... I have my diabetic ones in a couple of weeks, but have an early appointment.
Linda - oh dear ... the dreaded 'Lost Post Syndrome' ... most infuriating :-(
Alan - I loved the photo of the uncooperative lapwing ... such beautiful colours on his back. Poor Hamish ... still suffering ear problems.
Emma - I hope your daughter had a trouble free departure this morning, and that she has a safe journey.
Lynette - as you so rightly said, we talk about anything and everything on this Weekly page! Feel free to contribute as much (or as little!) as you like :-)
Diane - great webcam link ... thank you.
Thanks to everyone else for chat ... must go now ... OH will be back shortly, as he has been working today, and I need to clear up the signs of my lazy day!!!!!
Take care
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

Just been reading through posts. Picked up on the news at LOtL. Just watched a recording I made on Sat of the Edinburgh Military Tatoo, it was fabulous. All those marching bands, dancers, drills, and The Imps. Super to watch. One day I might get up to see it live.
Did one of the lawns this pm, hubby did the others, otherwise had a fairly lazy day.
Super weather posted for the rest of the week, at least we are not getting the hurricane forcast for the East coast of America.. Good luck to all our friends over there.

Afternoon all,
Thanks to all for todays chat.
Another lovely sunny day here and slightly warmer. Thought about going on a shopping mission to Tescos but went for a picnic at Barnwell Country Park instead.
Lynette: I watched some of the Military Tattoo on saturday and I also thought The Imps were brilliant. How they manage to miss each other on the crossovers is amazing.
I heard from a reliable source that there are still 4 ospreys at Manton Bay today so we have a few more days left before they have all gone. Spent the afternoon in the garden gazing skywards in case any ospreys were passing through but only saw a couple of large gulls which I confirmed with the binos after getting excited for a couple of minutes. Hamish is still on the ear drops for the next 3 weeks so hopefully this will clear up the problem. Lady Ps sister is slightly better but still in hospital. Thanks to everyone for your support.
Morning all:
Diane/Brenda: Yoga class was of the "relaxing" variety so no zipping through strange new poses with no time to coordinate the breathing with the position. I've taken it quite a bit over the years and find it's more controlled and soothing than other classes - and have never suffered any residual discomfort. I've tried Pilates, but ended up flopping about like one of EJ's fresh fishes and feeling very sressed! Tai chi is good - we had a class at the Y but the lady spoke so quietly I couldn't hear any of her instructions! Regardless of what you choose, much depends on the style/ability of the instructor. Yoga teachers do tend to stress the "listen to your body" notion.
Tony Blair is doing the talk-show circuit here right now to publicize his book. Wonder how forthcoming he'll be about the war/Brown/etc. I'd love to know what he really thought of George Bush!
Emma: Assume daughter has arrived okay and that you are not still anxiously awaiting news!
Lindybird: Don't worry about the lost post - it's enough to know you enjoyed your meal! (I've lost several posts; now when I'm in the middle of a long one I try to remember to hit "save" every now and then.
OG: Missed the OC fire caused by the golfer. Gosh, those guys are a public safety hazard.
Djoan: What is a sea fret? Assume not a depressed area of the ocean.
Off to start day. Take care all
