PS saw lots of buzzards today including four together quartering  a mown field - wonderful birds.

We have had visitors nearly all day so thought I would look in and I find I have 5 pages to catch up with !

I will try and read as I relax and watch Miss Marple on TV.

Alan, I am really sorry to hear about your Wife's sister. I hope she makes a quick recovery, but obviously it is very worrying for yourself and your wife.

Hi everyone.

Not much to report from this neck of the woods apart from the fact that the internet connection can be a bit dodgy.  So everyone who's mentioned a bad connection I feel your pain.  Weather was quite sunny today although I'll say no more in case I tempt torrential rain, severe winds, etc.  I'm happy to report that the young Great Spotted Woodpecker visited yestarday.  I've not seen any of the adult woodpeckers but I'm glad to have a young Great Spotted Woodpecker join all the other birds that come to feed.

Sue C:  Thanks for the info on what they might've called the two oldest LG chicks.  Aspen, and Willow are great names.  I wonder what they would've called the youngest chick.  Still three more healthy Ospreys in the world is a great result.

margobird:  Glad the Starlings amuse you.  They are brilliant to watch and provide endless entertainment.  Hope you have a great time in Cornwall.

TerryM:  Glad you enjoyed your flautists weekend.

dibnlib:  So sorry to hear about your broken shoulder.  Hope it heals soon.

OG:  That's a great picture of the scenary near Newcastleton.  Thanks for posting.  Must've been great to see lots of Buzzards.  :-)

Lynette:  Great to see you here.  To be honest I've sort of given up of the Pete's Pond site and I'm not even sure the cam is running anymore.  I used to really enoy watching the Pete's Pond cam.

Diane:  It would be great to be able to fly.  I usually feel this way when I'm waiting for a bus for a while and look up and see the birds.  They don't get restricted by time tables.  :-)  Thanks for the video link.

Evening all: Have been gone much of the day and had book club tonight where the hostess served marvellous raspberry tart.  Book was Olive Kitteredge; I hadn't finished it and apparently it's the kind of book you either love or hate.  Not sure how i felt, which must put me in a minority of sorts.

Diane: Thank you for the thank you card - that's what we call a fluke (when the whale kicks up it's tail. No idea how that translated into "it's a fluke" meaning an odd/rare event).  Geez. Less than six months to whale counting season!

Auntie: My Pony Lies Over the Ocean?  :-)   Gee - if we'd known you were going to Pohtiolamp, we'd have asked you to wave at us.  Larsson's books get rave reviews - justifiably so - but I think that translator did a brilliant job too - it'd be interesting to know if the English version had the same flavor as the original - it certainly retains some of the dry humor.

OG: This mention or ironing is contagious - somehow I found a large pile on top of the machiines.  Re the drive - it felt a lot hotter than it looked!  I agree about asking friends for cash as a wedding gift - puts people in a difficult position.  Do people in the UK "register" at their favorite stores for household goods/small kitchen appliances, tableware?

TerryM: Interesting about the Japanese flautists - a reflection of the culture I imagine.  Emmanuel's flute is gold?  I missed that in the video interview bit. Hmm.

Took car in for its service. (It passed all health checks except its front feet are wearing out). While waiting, I wandered down to shopping centre. The bookshop had Steig Larsson’s II & III, so I couldn’t start to cheat read. Looks like I shall have to put my name down and wait 6 months!

Auntie - I picked up a few words of Finnish (and several other languages) when I was transcribing headstones some years ago. Phrases like rest in peace, in loving memory of; as well as the months, mother, father, husband, wife, etc, etc. Long forgotten now.

OG - It seems it is acceptable nowadays to give money as a wedding gift so the newly weds can combine it and buy a large item. Guests drop their envelopes in a box - they call it a "wishing well’.

Morning all.  Another lovely morning here and forecast for more of the same in the coming days. Took a quick look at the webcam this morning - superb pale blue sky with the sun just showig through the mist.

Our local news bulleting has reported a horrific accident yesterday at a beach about 30 miles away.  A six year old boy, being towed on a wake board, was hit by a speedboat and has suffered horrific head injuries.  It doesn't bear thinking about.  Can't imagine how his parents and extended family must be feeling.

Thanks for all the commiserations about my arm.  I have very fragile skin which tears readily, so I'm used to having dressings somewhere or other - more care needed!

Quite a nice morning here with bright sunshine, although it's a bit fresh.  Probably just a sign of autumn being round the corner.  To be honest I like autumn because of the fantastic colours.

Annette: Raspberry tart sounds good.  I always feel not being sure what to think when the general concensus is that you either love or hate something, is a sign of a more sophisticated thought proccess.

AQ:  Glad your car passed it service.  Love the expression "front feet".  Reminds me of when I was a child and I used to think of car head lights as "eyes".

particiat:  The webcam pic does look very nice this morning.  I still can't get out the habit of loading the cam page first.  That's a horrible accident reported in your local news.  As you say it doesn't bear thinking about.

Not sure if its appropriate to post pics from the LG nest after the final Daily Update thread of the season, but I couldn't resist taking this snap.

How did you fracture your shoulder?

Glad to hear that OH and family are in contact again, obviously I don't know the problems but anything that keeps a family apart is a difficult issue to address.

Orange - AAHHHH!!!! I don't know if you picked up any of my posts recently about my broadband connection. I must have spent a fortune phoning Orange to no avail. Their technical support line is worse than useless and they keep denying a problem, say it is my router etc. I know it is not, because I have contacts in Inverness who are also on Orange, and we know that we are losing connection at the same time. Anyway, have been connected for just over a week now, fingers crossed. I kicked up such a fuss that they eventually said they would give me three months free. Wait and see, my subscription is due early next week---

 

 HI HEATHER so sorry to hear of your daughters health problems and very glad for you all that the recent news has been good.

OH plans on E Mailing Orange today to talk recompense for our inconvenience.

Shoulder fractured when Dillon took off after a cat with me at the end of the lead. He is a Golden Retriever and a very strong dog so I ended up on my face having landed on a stone. Will have a one sided swim this am, would like to try the cross trainer in the gym but best ask advice first. Have another review on Thurs at Raigmore and more physio on Mon so am getting my monies worth from the NHS!!!!! though I would rather not have to. Voluntary work this pm and a meeting this evening so a busy day andno doubt I will have to depend on collar and cuff later though I try not to as long as poss.

OH home from dog walk so off to the fitness club now. Like to get there at its' quietest so I don't get kicked

Can't get Pete's Pond up at all now - Think NG must have withdrawn patronage.

Bassenthwaite osps tracking, do we have a site to go to for that.  Glad to hear they are in France already.

How lovely OG that you're not too far away from the Solway.and can get down there fairly easily. Like the pic of the oyster catchers.

Off out to the gym for my swim shortly.  OH is then off to our County Cricket Ground as he is doing the PR at the day/night match down there. Loves his cricket.
