Weekly Chat, Sunday August 29, 2010

Hallo everyone. Just started this but now off to actually read recent posts!

  • Paul/Heron: Such a lovely post from you. I look forward to your comments on the chat thread.

AQ: So good to see Lizarda da Vinci!!! I just love their blue tongues. Hope she's had a nice winter sleep and can now produce lots of babies for you. LOL

I'll catch up with everyone after I sleep for a while. Everyone have a good Sunday!

WELCOME to all the people new to this thread. Stay around and see how goofy we all are!

  • Diane - here's a Blue Tongue Skink showing her tongue for you (from Reptile House at Butterfly World - forgive me if I posted it before).

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning all and hope you are all well.  Not such nice weather today, windy and quite chilly and dull.  Couldn't stop myself from looking at the webcam yet again.   Sounds and looks very chilly at LG with quite a strong wind.

Heron 77  I know how you feel about a strange melancholy since our beloved family left.  Takes a while to get used to being ospreyless again.  Once we get the other side of Christmas (here I go wishing my life away again) excitement will build again until the return of dear EJ and Odin hopefully.  Lots of videos and pictures to look back on and some wonderful memories of all that happened this season.

  • Good morning JenW I agree it is such a shame that there seems to be a problem again on the main cummunity blog.  It all gets a bit personal and upsetting at times.  I just think we should all be grateful for yet another successful season at Loch Garten.  As you see we are all friendly, chat about anything and everything and good company while we wait for the next season to begin.

  • Annette  my thanks also for being there when we were asleep and reporting so diligently through the season.

  • Annette – thanks, as ever, for starting off our new week – it’s good to read you “sounding” more yourself again after a tough few weeks.  I hope life is returning to some sort of normality.  Emma’s leathers got a mention on the main blog from Richard Thaxton, no less!  Look forward to seeing more of your journey pix.

Heron – think I’ll start calling you Paul since there isn’t another Paul to get confused – I look forward to your entertaining posts here in the Weekly Chat – unless your wing-flapping works and you lift off Africa-bound!

JenW – welcome!  I was horrified at what I read on the Main Blog last evening; as you say, it spoils the end of the season.  Anyway, it’s brought you here, where I hope you will find yourself among friends.

AQ – good idea to check out the church – annoying how priests/ministers have a knack of being elsewhere when you want to check them out too – must be part of their training!  We shan’t get to church today – too tired after our day out – will post more photos later.  Pleased that “City of Adelaide” is to be preserved at Port Adelaide – I know Maritime History folks at Irvine have been agonising over it for years – didn’t want it lost, but no money for preservation this end.

Margobird – good morning to you.  I hope you are beginning a healthy week and looking forward to that holiday.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi aquilareen  thanks for the pic of the blue tongued skink.  I am a big fan of reptiles.  Love snakes and remember being thrilled several times to actually hold one.  Several zoos now have experience days where children and this big kid gets to hold or stroke an animal.  Love watching flying dispays too from raptors and when they ask if there are children that would like to have a go my hand is the first to go up, always ask if bigs kids are allowed LOL.

  • AQ love the pic of your Skink, how great to have one living in your garden.

I find Cicadas fascinating Diane, not ugly at all in my eyes...just extremely interesting. I once thought I saw one in my garden years ago but of course I must have been mistaken as I believe the only cicada found in the UK live in the New Forest, way down south whereas I live up north. Thanks for the link to the Katydid too, another fascinating insect.

  • Good morning original goldfinch I am feeling better every day but it has taken just over a fortnight to reach this stage.  Have been sorting out clothes that I will need for the holiday and have managed to acquire a huge pile of ironing which I will start soon.  Weather dull, chilly and windy a bit of a change from yesterday when we had a lovely day.  Really looking forward to Cornwall now, so many favourite places to visit and lots of good food and I won't be the one cooking it.  Although we are self catering it will only be breakfast and OH tends to sort that out so I get a really good break from everything.  Takling clothes to cover all eventualities, we always go in September when we visit Cornwall and you do tend to get all sorts of weather.  At least I won't be worrying about overweight cases this year.  We will have an easy journey down stopping for breakfast on the way and arriving hopefully early afternoon.  OH is at work again this morning as has so much to do before we go.  As a rule we don't go out on Bank Holidays as the traffic is always horrendous.  Tomorrow we are going on a clothes shopping trip, I need some more warm jumpers and cardigans.  we are going to the Minack Theatre to see Gilbert and Sullivan's Gondoliers so very much hoping the weather will OK that evening as the theatre is almost on the side of a cliff.  Have purchased a warm blanket to wrap round ourselves in case it is a bit chilly.  Hoping to do some tin mine walks which I just love doing.  Well better go and start this mound of ironing now.  Have a good day.

  • Morning all,

Thanks to everyone for the chat  and OG for the pics of the show and the Bataleur Eagle.

I remember when holidaying in Greece they used to paint the trunks of the trees with insecticide to prevent the cicadas climbing up and eating the olives . They really make a racket especially on hot days, the hotter the day the louder the noise.

Nothing hot about the weather here today. Very cloudy with a strong northerly breeze 14c and showers forecast for later.
