Daily Update Finale (Empty LG Nest), Saturday, 28 August, 2010

I've started one final Daily Update thread to end the week. Tonight (for U.K. Sunday) Annette or someone will start a new Weekly Chat and that can be the official end to the Daily Update.

This last Daily Update thread may be needed because jsb has just posted the following on the old thread:

Osprey on nest at 6.28am for about three seconds, unexpeected, so too late to capture by one second, Heard wing air-rush sound, came in from left, looked at camera, looked up, flew off, to right. Possibly a male, but not sure, too quick for me, having tea in bed.

EDIT: Was busy researching story on cupcakes, when it happened, after waking from nightmare about an orchestra!

Hope that's okay with everyone, especially since we have an osprey about.

  • Yup! Maybe another local osprey, or an immature one, checking to see for signs of occupancy, with designs on the nest for 2011?

  • So we are not crazy for taking a peek at an empty nest. Who knows what we may see - besides an untidy mess. Actually the crossed sticks sort of indicate to me that "this space is taken".

  • I want to make sure that JSB gets all the credit here. He's the one who spotted the osprey. Well done, JSB!!!

  • AQ: Am I crazy? I seem to remember that the osps left crossed sticks on the nest last year when they left. Seriously.

  • No, we're not crazy - just deprived of our regular "fix". LOL

  • AQ: Oh, I meant: Am I crazy for thinking that the ospreys did the same thing last year -- leaving the sticks crossed on the nest as a sign that the nest is spoken for? I swear I remember that.

However, I do feel a bit goofy for gazing at an empty nest several times a day. LOL LOL Not something I'd admit anywhere but here. :-)

  • Diane   Thanks for starting the thread. I think it is right thast we had one last daily thread before the new weekly thread starts tomorrow!

Not sure about the crossed sticks. Interesting idea to look for evidence of though.

  • Morning!     Those crossed sticks do remind me of something...  did it happen last year or are we just imagining?????

  • Morning all ... for the last time on the Daily page!       So ... we still have an osprey in the area checking out the nest ... must keep my eyes on the nest a bit more today and join Diane's 'goofy club'   :-))

  • Good morning all.  One last day of watching the now-empty nest.  Hope the family members are faring well on their miration.  It was good to read Debbie's comprehensive summary of the run-up to departures.  Can't think that any other juveniles have had a better start in life.  Bon voyage , the LG family!
