Hi, it was a day of misery for the two chicks. With EJ gone and it looks like Odin has gone too, there were no deliveries of fish yesterday.
Nature is playing its part. It is time the two juves went fishing for themselves or else start on their migratory journey. Odin has obviously felt it is time to kick start these two into foraging for themselves. If confirmed he is gone by the LG team it will be about the same time as last year.
The weather sounds foul at LG at the moment so hope they are sheltering safely somewhere.
Only time and a new day will tell us what is happening.

Cirrus: Many thanks, as my professional training dictates, I will continue to keep and open mind in all things, including the stats. Part of my job was risk analysis and contingency planning, discussing it was OK, but, when it came to getting my management to spend large sums of money to cover, these risks, it was an uphill struggle.

Cirrus and jsb - I wonder, whether Eldest may have gone on a trip between the 14th and the 17th, returned briefly on the 17th to obtain food, and then finally left. We can't know, but this would be consistent with Eldest's Rothes-like behaviour.
LG never put this on Google Earth, but Richard posted in the blog last year that on 7th August, Rothes "ventured north a little on Friday 7th, just on a wee sight-seeing day out perhaps, up as far as Garve, north west of Inverness, taking herself a set of aerial photos of Highland perhaps, before returning back to the nest area and then departing south on Sunday morning (9th)".

That's a very good point, Sue C - Sometimes they seem to take a little flight around the area before they actually go south not to return until they are ready to mate themselves.
As some of you are interested, I have put a new little bit of poetry on the Poetry Corner thread for EJ, under 'Osprey Poems', as this year's tribute to her sterling work in raising her wonderful family. Bravo EJ, our Scottish Queen!
Morning all ... thanks for nest reports and interesting discussion! Empty nest now and silence, apart from the rain! I did see one chick when I looked in briefly earlier on ... hopefully they will get a move on if the weather improves ... not sure if this weather is good for migrating :-(

Morning all. I've just read all the posts, including the late ones yesterday. Sorry there's disagreement about Odin's contributiion and his behaviour. We all love the ospreys so much that it's difficult to stay objective. One thing, unpleasant as it is, that we have to remember is that all migratory birds have a certain level of mortality. As regards Deshar and Nethy, poor Deshar's navigation equipment let him down. I have never given up on Nethy - I recall Richard saying it was possible her harness had fallen off. (I know that's a very slim chance). I think both EJ and Odin have done wonderful jobs this year and we need to keep hoping the juves will catch on about what's now required of them if they are to survive. Odin is still my hero! (Sorry for the rant - it's meant to be encouragement to hope.)
