Weekly Chat, Sunday August 22, 2010

Hi all. Haven't had a chance to check out most recent postings from last week but will do so tomorrow.

  • Lynette: I really enjoyed the Pete's Pond site, as did some others here. Annette and I used to watch it at night while keeping an eye on the LG nest. But National Geographic had been threatening to shut it down for some time, and the folks in charge were struggling mightily to keep it running. I think the cost as well as the remoteness/instability of the cam were the issues. A while back, I tried to access the cam, and my virus/security program warned that something on the site was attempting to attack my computer. It may have been a false alarm, but I've been wary of the site since. I think they have been playing the same video recording for much of the last few months anyway. It's too bad, because you're right, it was a great webcam; I miss it.

I'm so very sorry about your Mom. I was caregiver for my Mom for 3 years, so I can understand.

  • Good morning I would like to reply to each of you but running out of time before my great nephew arrives with Nanny (my youngest sister).  Thanks for all the chat and pleased Annette  has arrived home safely.

Thankfully the rain was not as heavy yesterday as promised so not toilet watch.

    Hopefully back later.

  • Just popping in to say, Good Morning ALL. Still drizzling here, but although it rained all night, it was not as heavy as we have had over recent days. We will need to get into the garden as it starts to dry, and clear all the leaves and twigs.

Annette, Good to see you are home safely after such a hectic trip.

I will catch up with all the chat later, but in the meantime, do enjoy your Friday.

  • Afternoon all ... its been another beautiful day here .. until about ten minutes ago when it started to get dark, and now it is pouring! Never mind, it is better than a completely wet day   :-)

margobird - I hope you are enjoying your day with Rhys - he will be at such an interesting age now! Glad you didn't have to do a toilet watch last night  :-)

Diane and Linda -  I reported your comments to my OH about me being more domesticated ... he was duly abashed!! He didn't really mean it, and is very good himself in the kitchen, so I can't complain. Fantastic list of webcams to follow ... some I have already, but loads more to keep me from doing jobs in the winter!

Annette glad you got home safely ... you would need a good sleep after that long journey.

Thanks to everyone else for chat etc

    Take care

  • Thanks to everyone for the kind words on my BiL death, we have now got most of the paper work done and my SiL has sent her son home as she said she was needing some time on her own and if she was needing anything I was only two minutes away. My nephew and I have been keeping in touch daily to make sure all the bases had been covered.  Tomorrow I am taking SiL and her sister somewhere so that SiL can do some shopping where she won't meet anyone she knows. The funeral is on tuesday so after we get that over we will be able to get some normality back into our lives.

I have been catching up with all the problems that people have been having with the rain south of the border and hope Margobird doesn't have any more toilet problems I am lucky I live at the top of a hill.  It also has been reported that there has been another batch of white tail eagles released from their quarters in Fife so will have to be on the lookout to see if any of them come my way.

hope everyone is keeping well .

  • Afternoon all,

Thanks for all the chat etc. Been out and about a lot today so not had a lot of time to reply but been lurking in the background at times.

The rain finally stopped after about 40 hours. Must be some kind of a record for August. Fortunately was not all that heavy at times so no flooding here. Dry and cloudy today but decidedly cool. The grass has suddenly started to sprout and turn green in places so looks like the lawnmower will get a run out at the weekend.

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend everyone.

  • Hello George - I am so glad to hear that things are proceeding OK for the funeral next week. I know exactly what you mean about needing to get Tuesday over with. SiL will be exhausted. When my (I want to say first, but in fact it was my second )  husband died ,although I so appreciated all the phone calls, etc, and the company of a dear relative, I just wanted to be on my own (well, in my case, it was with my two younger children). It was as if , sad and bereft as we were, we just needed to adjust to being without him, as it was going to be, in the future, just us in the house. Will be thinking of you and family on Tuseday.

  • Look at this big beautiful ol' polar bear on this webcam: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/polarcam/index.html Isn't he gorgeous?!

They also have an elephant cam: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/elephantcam/index.html

I have mixed feelings about zoos, but these cams are really nice.

  • Hi Diane thanks for those links to polar bear and elephants.  I am not a big fan of zoos but some do get it more right than others.  Two thinks to look at while we wait for the return of our ospreys.
