Daily Update (LG Nest) Thursday 19th August

Hi folk,

It was a mixed day yesterday. Fish delivery I think in the morning but not sure whether there were more during the day. Two juves kept coming and going and Odin visited at least twice during the course of the day - once , eyeing up the fish the youngster had. Did his usual housekeeping and kept everyone amused with his antics.

We know that EJ and Odin were around yesterday, and the two juves are believed to be Titch and Middle but no doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Over to the night/early morning shift and keep us amused with your lovely commentaries and occasional pics.

I'm off to bed, see everyone in the morning.

Tiger: Hmmmm. By golly, I agree with you!

I am glad you do since it has been bothering me for the last hour.

  • Tiger: My identification skills are sorely lacking, but after comparing this morning's pic with the photos on the link you posted, I think you're right. I'll leave it up to you all for further deliberation. :-) Night all.

Here's a capture I made of the two juves, when they were both on the nest. The light is pretty this morning.

    Well here is C1

  • Hi.  Thanks for the great pics & posts, All.  I'm off out again so will look forward to posts on my return later today.

  • Tiger and Diane - what beautiful captures  :) you've caught this morning ! Thank you.

I often find that the daylight (at any time of the  day ) can have a real effect on the images especially when I've been trying to sort out the differences in 'foreheads'. I think the youngsters heads look dark because of the effect of the light Tiger. Your capture at  07.40 does clearly show Youngest on the right eating. Agree?  Yet middle youngster (adn it is) looks quite dark headed. The tell tale there  for me is that the profile of the youngster just isn't 'old' enough looking. Eldest has a really 'mature' look from profile.  The same in Diane's capture. Youngest facing 'almost' directing at the camera. The youngster in profile reminds me of Mallachie and that's another reason I know it's Middle youngester - that large white patch - which Eldest doesn't have . Eldest has a long broad dark 'swathe' type of eye band that (to my mind) is quite distinctive.

Does this help at all? (hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs or whatever the expression is- apologies if so) . And maybe this isn't ID isn't what you were talking about. Either way - my intentions were good  :)  I have heard two different youngster calling in the background and belive the 'raspy' throated one to be Middle youngster.

And finally, hello and good morning all. Joan - lovely morning capture. Favoured overseass fans in Oz and across The Pond - salutations to you:)  Thank you all for the posts - Shiela , thanks , you've been very faithful this morning.

  • Morning ALL and thanks for very descripyive earlier reports. Thanks to Tiger for those beautiful dawn photographs and also to Diane and Joan for their lovely pictures.

    EN at the moment.

  • Just a reminder - this is Eldest

  • Wonderful captures Tiger and Diane. They look quite ethereal with the beautiful lighting and mist...more like a set of portraits on canvas.

Hopefully I will have a little more time for cam watching today. Hope they put in some appearances for me. Sod's Law if they don't!

  • Cirrus    Your analysis is great. I have not been studying these birds as closely as I normally do so I am sure you are much more familiar with them than me.

However it still bothers me that neither of the chicks in Diane's picture has much white on its head.

I agree with you that the patterns may change with the direction of the light.

Unfortunately I am not familiar enough with C3 to definitely ID it in my capture at 7.20am. I am more familiar with C3 when viewed from the front.

Chloe maybe this calls for one of your collages?
