Daily Update (LG Nest) Wednesday 18th August

Well, what a funny day we had yesterday.  Comings and goings. EJ in the morning. Odin later on. Two juves screeching away for food which was delivered afternoon and evening.  EJ was seen at breakfast time but not since. Has she left?? We will have to wait to see what today brings.

Thanks once again to all who update us early morning etc sometimes with pics but often with witty comments.

At present the nest is as you can guess empty.  Spotlights have been seen in the area but I failed to snap as was too late to do so. Not sure what it was all about.

Over to the early morning shift - must think about bed as it has gone midnight here.

  • Good morning Everyone.

That sounds like an Odin chirup offstage.

  • Lynette, like you I was very worried about that spotlight.  I hope the mystery will be cleared up later today.  Let's hope it was innocent and legitimate.  It bothered me that it was so late and that whoever it was was hoping no one would notice.  Do you agree?

  • Barbara Jean That is a lovely recollection of Deshar's first flight. His life was short but a lasting imprint in people's hearts.

  • Odin flew in, just standing & looking around. Nest is looking very pretty with tufts now!

Maybe Tiger will confirm, but I think I remember one year when EJ was missing for a few days and then returned to the nest before she migrated.

     Tiger

Yes in 2004 EJ went missing on 31st July before the third chick had fledged. She was then possibly sighted on 6th August. Then she turned up on August 11 with a fish and then another one and that was it. She was gone.

]Thanks Tiger. Good to know my memory is still intact.

Yes Deshar did worry us when still at LG and I have such wonderful memories and pictures.

  • Brenda /Tiger Did the male (hopefully not OVS) continue to bring in fish for the youngster that had not fledged?

    How awful!

Brenda Would you please post me a picture of Deshar. I don't have one - either here or if you don't feel that is right, over on Chat. Thank you

Certainly I agree but hopefully there will be an explanation as to what it was in due course.

Morning all.  Been busy catching up and noting a lot of interesting information from the past.  Thank you to you all.

I too am intrigued by the torchlight.  I would not have thought that any staff would have been wandering in the dark, given the area is boggy, unless there was a major problem.  The view from the hide is across this open area with an uninterrupted view of the nest tree and the camera tree.  What with the RSPB webcam open to all to watch, and the two monitors in the hide where the two-man/woman night shift sit there is very little chance of any approach without being seen, as you have all shown!  It will be fascinating to know exactly what did happen.

I have heard an Odin 'chirrup' and seen him once this morning, albeit briefly.  Both have been noted above.
