Daily Update (LG Nest) Thursday 5th August

Hi all,

Its was a day of action again, stealing of fish from EJ and Odin, Odin trying to get fish off EJ, GEMs trying to get in on the act, its was all happening yesterday.

We learnt that one youngster had fished for himself and indeed two might have learnt for themselves but that is not confirmed.

Will today see more action or will it be a quiet day.  Thanks to all who open up the posts in the middle of our night and keep us going so we know what has been happening. Even in the wee small hours when most of us here are in our beds you let us know whats been happening.

There were some fantastic pictures yesterday - keep it up team - we love them and can't have enough of them.

This is the nest at 12.16am. Over to the night shift.

  • ENS again. Unless someone is using a strimmer there are a lot of flies buzzing around. The smell around the nest must be quite powerful by now.

Look forward to seeing the clip later, Alan. Missed the delivery but have a video of feeding etc to take snaps from.

Just a footnote - looking at LOTL this morning, official blog says Lady has not been seen since 10am yesterday and they are waiting till today is out before officially reporting that she is probably on her way.  A fine specimen of a bird, full of tenacity and endurance and came through despite all the odds against her. With the Scottish weather not being very kind lately she deserves a vacation in sunny Africa -  God speed Lady, may you arrive safely.

Sorry, digressing, but I don't know how many of you are following her or know of the situation.

ENS - back later in afternoon - doing cricket teas for youth side visiting the village.

Amen to that LYNETTE. After her 'near death' experience, Lady deserves the sun on her back and the wind under her wings.

Good luck with your cricketers. AAh! I hear osprey noises!

  • It's EJ with half a fish but her juvs are not there! She's looking a bit mystified. Just enjoy the peace and quiet, EJ.

  • Poor EJ ... looking quite forlorn with her half-eaten fish ... there are no takers!

  • I heard EJ chirpng gently and came through to see Odin standing on the nest. I'm surprised he hasn't taken the fish ... or maybe EJ wouldn't let him!!

  • EJ is having a gentle one-sided conversation with Odin ... who is snoozing!

  • I look back in five minutes later to find Odin gone ... EJ and fish gone ... and a screeching GEM on the nest! I don't know if EJ took the fish or if she let Odin have it!!

  • Odin brings a big branch ... and then stands chirruping at an intruder ... obviously the intruder can't tell the difference between a branch and a fish :-))

EDIT - in case anyone wonders if I've nothing better to do than sit here at the computer, I'm actually trying to tidy the room!!!!!

  • Good afternoon Lynette, quietwoman and DjoanS.  I missed the delivery earlier but not my fault this time, we had a power cut for an hour.  Back on now pleased to say.  Thanks for the pics DjoanS as you can guess I have not seen any of the family today and as I will be out tonight won't be able to watch.  As I type I think it is Odin doing his warning whistle so guessing there is an intruder, at long last I have seen one.  I digress we are taking a friend out for a Chinese meal.  She is 84 but just amazing and she had led such an itneresting life I could listen to her for ages.

  • Odin has left but could still hear him in the distance.
