The three juveniles are thriving under Mrs G and Aran's continued care, proving once again what formidable parents they are. Long may the season continue to be be hassle-free as it nears the time for migration
I was catching up with some neglected Starr Ranch duties (found a Skunk on the Trail ) but could see lots of activity on the Glaslyn cam, am very hot 'n tired now so this may be more sketchy than our dear birds deserve.
17:08 KC2 arrived to wait in hopes of getting some of KC4's leftover fish, but soon both ospreys were flattened by an intruder alert - it's KC4's face you can see:
Now we know everything ;)
On recovery, KC2 flew off with the little bit of fish and KC4 flew off empty-taloned.
As reported, MrsG visited - she seemed to be looking for something to eat... then she went to the perch.
KC3 joined her briefly, she flew off, he was on and off the nest and away and back and... can't keep up!
One of his sisters (EDIT - it was KC4) brought some nice green leaves:
Soon all 3 were waiting:
One by one they flew, Heather did a tour and when she returned to the nest KC3 was waiting there and Aran landed with a flounder that was blurred and then hidden from view - it was well headless. KC3 ate until 20:29 when he flew off with it:
Heather did another tour of the green and very pleasant land.
20:52 nightcam view, no birds seen up to now.
IMAGICAT
It rained overnight but not so's to blur the cam very much.
05:30 KC3 was on the nest for a minute only.
06:21 KC2 landed.
06:24 Intruder alert, KC4 flew in to support:
The 2 sisters, the darker KC2 on the left:
Suddenly, a joint reaction to corvid arrival:
A bit of flying around, then Daddy arrived with a good FLOUNDER, nearly landing on KC2 with KC3 in attendance:
KC3 gave up and flew, KC2 ate for a while then flew with flounder:
Something occurred in the bottom right corner, first there was a "white thing" flew by right-to-left, then a two-tone flew back the other way - we don't have enough frames-per-second to show more than one shot of each:
07:34 MrsG flew in to the nest clucking, then to the perch where she was joined by a juvie and a bit later by KC2 with her flounder!
MrsG flew @ 07:55, leaving the two juves, KC2 with KC3 not arguing:
KC2 ate expertly but was interrupted by an intrusion (she's the rear bird here):
KC2 took her fish to the nest, managing to avoid being deprived by KC4, and continued eating:
08:36 KC2 willingly allowed KC4 to take the fish, loads left, KC4 is still eating it:
Up to 09:38 - has KC3 gone fishing for himself ???
When KC4 eventually finished eating MrsG came and ate the scant remainder - just skin - then she tidied a couple of sticks and is not on the perch preening and chilling:
KC2 joined MrsG on the perch, then both spied something and flew, KC2 first - but MrsG was in one of those moods:
She grabbed the fish and flew with it:
KC2 was terribly shocked and upset
She flew eventually.
I think that MrsG is eating the fish behind some oak leaves - a foto would be futile.
EDIT - no, it's a preener, can't be her.
Aran brought 2 sticks in quick succession, KC3 was disappointed:
Good gracious! - they should be banned! (Well, the odd puffer train is fine )
KC3 got his fish in the end - he hadn't taken it from Aran so Aran flew, leaving it on the nest - it was a flapper for a little while - KC3 flew off with it just after this snap:
KC2 appeared on nest and perch and flew, then a corvid, then some sky-scanning, then more corvid, more ENS...
Then KC2 got a fish, which she flew with:
There was a long look at this bird - it was still there an hour later but the cam had to whip away to the nest...
...KC3 and KC4 came to the nest and a confusing period followed, due to intruder activity and Heather scanning the sky again.
Then Aran brought a fish, which KC4 got:
Flattened again!
MrsG flew in to defend:
Cam went looking again and when it returned to the nest MrsG had left, KC4 was eating fish and KC3 sitting down.
Well! Aran delivered a "normal" fish, right on the edge of our picture. KC4 forsook her flounder and grabbed it!
KC3 gratefully took the rejected flounder:
By 18:00 KC4 had finished the new fish and flown, KC3 kept eating for a few minutes then flew with his flounder - must be a toughie!
Then we had a little visitor - tragically, even tho it was here for 5+ minutes, zoom was not engaged until a second after it had flown off :( Could it have been a female Redstart? I dunno, but I have to swallow my pride and try!
18:33 KC4 got another flounder !!! Can you see her face?
I think she ate the lot before flying @ 19:18.
The current scene:
She just treated us to a poop and flex - I won't de-dignify her with the former:
07 August evening scenes:
No more nest activity.
