August is the month when we've seen the Loch Arkaig ospreys depart on their journey south. We've enjoyed watching them this year - the wonderful parenting skills of Aila and Louis, and the antics of their 3 chicks, Captain, Vera and Doddie.
Mary GK did an absolutely wonderful video summarising the 2020 season. Thank you so much Mary! And here is Geemeff's great compilation, thank you!
2020 last dates:
Doddie JJ6 was last seen at the nest on Saturday 15th August 2020
Aila was last seen on Saturday 22nd August 2020
Captain JJ7 was last seen on Sunday 23rd August 2020
Vera JJ8 was last seen on Saturday 5 September.
An unidentified osprey was seen off camera on Sunday 6 September eating a fish. This could well have been Louis, having arrived and found no Vera around to feed.
Doddie JJ6 was videod and photographed fishing for over a fortnight at Avalon Marshes in Somerset

There was a fleeting glimpse of a wingtip at 10.16.10 on the perch just before JJ8 arrived, she was calling in the distance so it wasn't her. Louis gives an alarm call as he flies off - is the hooded crow around perhaps?
I am going offline now, possibly for the rest of the day. JJ8 needs to be on her way, if she has been listening to Trying she will head off around mid-day. Ian
Thanks for the video Geemeff. They are both putting on the pounds now, and look fit and ready to depart!
After the 10.16 delivery, Louis flew off quickly. JJ8 hung around chuntering to herself before flying off at

10.17 JJ8 yelling at anyone who would listen
and she flew off at 10.23
As far as I can tell, no one has been back to the nest since then. It is all horribly quiet. Is that grey lump the remains of a fish?

Sorry Ian, she listens to no one! Liz B reported:
14.06 JJ8 is still about. She's just been flying around the area and landed in a tree not far away from the nest.

Yes, it's yesterday's flatfish, fish number one. It quickly got rejected when Louis kept bringing fish of the trout kind, which are more to her liking.
Fish number two!
