August is the month when we've seen the Loch Arkaig ospreys depart on their journey south. We've enjoyed watching them this year - the wonderful parenting skills of Aila and Louis, and the antics of their 3 chicks, Captain, Vera and Doddie.
Mary GK did an absolutely wonderful video summarising the 2020 season. Thank you so much Mary! And here is Geemeff's great compilation, thank you!
2020 last dates:
Doddie JJ6 was last seen at the nest on Saturday 15th August 2020
Aila was last seen on Saturday 22nd August 2020
Captain JJ7 was last seen on Sunday 23rd August 2020
Vera JJ8 was last seen on Saturday 5 September.
An unidentified osprey was seen off camera on Sunday 6 September eating a fish. This could well have been Louis, having arrived and found no Vera around to feed.
Doddie JJ6 was videod and photographed fishing for over a fortnight at Avalon Marshes in Somerset

13.57.44 Louis gets attacked by Vera as he delivers fish number two, a flatfish
With poor Louis being attacked more often as he brings fish to the nest, perhaps he should employ his caber toss strategy again!
16.06, JJ6 & JJ8 are on the nest. Judging by the "five dots" marking between the wing & leg I think Aila delivered the fish. I also think it could be a flat fish. Aila was on & off the nest very quickly. JJ7 came in as well but JJ6 got the fish. Ian

16.18, the chicks were momentarily distracted by something. JJ6 has now resumed eating the fish. Ian
Louis delivers fish number four , also a flatfish 16:54:54
Aila delivers fish number three, a flatfish 16.06.10
I've not been watching for a couple of hours since just after the 16.06 delivery by Aila. JJ6 must have flown with the flat fish that Aila brought in as he returned for the Louis delivery with it still in his talons. It looks like JJ8 got the one Louis brought in. Ian
PS - I'm going offline for the evening now. EDIT - 16.40, JJ has to fight off first JJ7 then JJ8 for the 16.06 fish he had been eating. He flew with it as a result of the aggro his siblings were giving him.

Fish number five, flatfish 17.53.59. The fourth flatfish in a row, a new record! Vera takes it and Captain gets her old one.
I'd love a fish. Please.
