HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY NEW MOON!

The new moon (the dark moon) is on 20 July.

Everyone have a safe and content week!

  • Diane - I wouldn't call you a nosy old woman. I would call you someone who does very interesting research that I for one don't have either the time or the capacity to do. Very much looking forward to hearing about the results of your latest project. In the UK the testing seems totally random - some people I know have had tests after showing some symptoms (not always the 'published' symptoms) and others have been told to take paracetamol and they'll be fine. Some have had tests without symptoms and been found positive. Some have had symptoms but have tested negative. There doesn't seem to be any consistency - whether that's inconsistency in the testing or in the virus, I'm not qualified to comment. Someone I know is volunteering for second level tracing from test results and has had hardly any referrals. I don't know whether it's because the system of Test and Trace is wrong or whether it's not being operated correctly. I know this is an unknown virus, and therefore unpredictable, but I would have thought that by now there should be some reliable testing widely available - the infection rate seems to be increasing rather than decreasing while the lockdown restrictions are being relaxed. I don't understand ... but then I'm not a scientist!
  • LINDY My OH thinks the same.
  • Good Morning. Dry here, so my OH has gone off to his golf with a cheerful wave. I have the remainder of the packing to do - I left some things in cases from last time!

    Love the quotes, AQ.
  • Enjoy your time away, LINDY -
I was very surprised to see pics from my friend in Wales, on Facebook. A group of six or seven ladies, all of a 'certain age' having afternoon tea in the garden of one of them. No social distancing, sitting cheek by jowl, leaning into each other for the photos. Mmm....
  • Yes, I have had to try not to say too much to her. With all her (8) ailments I cannot see why she and her pals have suddenly decided to break the law and then publicise the fact on FB......
  • OG here using E-E's PC. His is okay, J just bought a new laptop and that seems okay - although I don't think he has quite finished installing everything. Mine is very sick - seems to have a big problem with latest MS updates. OH has spent hours (which he can't really spare) trying to do the techie stuff, but thinks I need a new PC. His and mine are identical and eight years old, so not too bad, I suppose. (Can't share one as we have such different needs and ways of doing things) Carlisle is having yet another covid hot spot in various pubs and our health board advise not to go there, so will probably have to visit Dumfries. Managed to move my back-ups onto the Surface, so I have been using that to try to put the Ch Mag together, but I find it very frustrating to use.

Been reading your posts - greetings, sympathy, encouragement etc on offer as appropriate!
  • We were going to walk at the canal this morning but had to delay as I spotted a baby blackbird in trouble across the road. I called OH and together we managed to contain it and put it into a box. The SSPCA came a while later. Sadly the poor bird had a broken wing and leg so was put to sleep. So sad, but better than leaving it to suffer. We did the right thing. I guess it may have flown into a window or been hit by a car. Don't think it was a cat as it would surely have been killed.

We got our canal walk this afternoon. It was quite warm. The canal opened to traffic yesterday and it was lovely to see boats on the move again.
  • PAT: You make several astute points! I especially agree about the governments' failures to make reliable, accessible testing available by now. In Indiana, we are seeing a marked increase in COVID-19 cases. The governor is so alarmed that he has mandated that every Indiana resident 8 years and older must wear a mask in most public settings beginning Monday. If people refuse to comply, they will be subject to 180 days in jail and/or a $1000 fine!

OG: Nice to see you. I feared that you were battling with your computer. I noticed that there was a blank space beside your name on my Facebook list. I didn't think that bode well. I hope you can get it fixed or find a new machine that meets all of your needs and makes you happy.
