HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a good week and keeps healthy. I'm hoping that everyone on this forum will avoid the virus. Sending you all protective energy.

BIRD NEWS FROM MY PATCH

The big Barred Owls are nesting at the bottom of the ridge right across from my front door. Every time I go outdoors, one of them gives me a booming hoot. Last year, they nested in a tall, old locust tree on the levee by the creek. We had so much flooding that the nest site turned out to be a precarious perch. I think they remembered it was a dangerous location, so this year they’re nesting low in a tree across from me. They are incredibly loud. Their call sounds like, “Whoo cooks for you? Whoo cooks for you?” They can also caterwaul just like large apes when they're feeling aggressive. They can chill my blood sometimes. LOL!

I walked up the hill to town last week to get a couple of meal items at the little general store. I looked up, and R.T. Hawk was flying above me. He landed on a tall silo and watched while I went into the store. Then, he escorted me back. I think he thought he was protecting me from the big Barred Owls, which are his enemies. I hope they can all stay away from each other. R.T. and his mate are nesting far back in the flood plain away from my house right now.

  • Greetings!! I've been trying all day to get here, and at last I've managed it. Hope everyone is OK. Here we are in April … wonder what this month will hold?
  • Lindy I gather there is a Gov.org website that over 70s can register for help getting online shopping. Not sure if it’s doing what it should as my friend in Dartmouth registered and had not heard a thing. She is 77 but very fit her OH is 81 with underlying health issues. I worry about her and feel frustrated I can’t help.
  • Someone has just sent me this. It's absolutely beautiful. Enjoy

This song is from Italy's most famous band in the 70's. They have donated the copyrights to Bergamo Hospital. Every click on the video means a gift, because YouTube pays the owner of those copyrights per click. In Bergamo hospital, 800 people died yesterday alone. So share this video as much as possible. Grazie!

  • I wonder, PAT!
I have been thinking about your rubbish bins. Maybe palanquin might be more like it?
  • Hello from me after failing to get on this forum at all this morning. OH has mowed again. J is taking his Wednesday Off and sorting his finances. Not sure what I have done but it took me all morning!

ANNETTE – good to see pix from your outing.

AQ – pleased your OH has found something to enjoy! Thanks for the funnies!

LINDA – thanks for your funnies too! We had one short shower this morning, but not enough to be too wet for mowing. Have I mentioned that we have secured a Morrison’s box for next week? Pot Luck what’s in it, but can’t be worse than substitutions, and any tins we don’t like can go to the food bank.

WENDY – I don’t know how Duke manages it – he must have a huge bladder!

HEATHER – Hmm! Surely they know you need fresh air and exercise- you could say you went for a little walk, and not mention it was in the direction of the nearest supermarket? I thought a palanquin was a lying down version of a sedan chair – possibly Persian?

PAT – that song is so beautiful – thank you for sharing it.
  • Morning all:   I couldn't get on the site last night; who knows....

I just came back from Trader Joe's, which changed its senior hours as of Monday, confusing everyone, but still allows only 50 people in the store at one time (or even less from the looks of it).  Also, several grocery chains are no longer allowing customers to bring their own recyclable bags; instead the checkers are using paper/plastic.

Heather: Had to smile at palanquin, especially the vision of PatO's community trash being carried away in such grand stye!  :-)

PatO:  Lovely video - those medical folks are true heroes. Too bad it's times like these that we realize just how much first responders of all kinds keep us safe.

Heard on the radio yesterday that in China, the end of some lock down rules has resulted in a spike in divorce petitions...   The flip side is how many babies will be ultimately be attributed to all this...

Off to tidy up shrub that has finally stopped blooming and is threatening to take over the sidewalk.

    Take care everyone.

  • OG I will probably go for a walk as you suggest! I know they mean well but I have always been defiantly independent.
  • HEATHER - don't take any unnecessary risks because of my suggestion!
  • OG Duke can go 18 hours between wees.. apart from when we are on a walk. When he came to us he no muscles and never cocked his leg but he is a big boy now:-))
