HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week. I also hope everyone stays safe from the big UK storm.

  • HEATHER - yes, another fire alarm at work today for J. Sorry about your daughter. It is possible to self-refer for such conditions - but I forget the exact NHS portal.

LINDA - hope your jeweller is not going to use a finger measurement taken today - it will be a few sizes less in the current cold weather!

BTW, I don't know what I actually did today - just bits of "this and that" I think!
  • Forgot to say to OG that I hope thing settle down for J - who needs all that bother.

Lindybird: That's definitely the kind of gift for which you have to have someone specific in mind.
  • OG - I hope that the school can identify the culprit(s) without any more delay. I
It's coldish here but no snow or sleet in my area. I see that you still have high winds.
  • Good Morning. Dry and light clouds. Hoped that it might be the end of the bad weather, but now hear that there's another storm coming at the weekend. :-(

My ring finger is odd now: couldn't get the ring off because the joint was bigger than 40 odd years ago, but the finger had been restricted by the ring so is narrower than all the others! Gave the jeweller my eternity ring which still fits (a present from my OH after the 1st 25 years) and he wants to make the altered one a half a size bigger than that. I suppose it's sensible as my grandmothers both had enlarged joints as they got elderly, and mine might do the same.

Spoke to my late Friends OH yesterday and he's trying to keep busy. He has a dog and a cat to look after, which gives him routine, and many good friends in their village who invite him to events.
  • Good that G's husband is keeping busy, LINDY. It works for some more than others.
My knuckles are larger these days. I struggled to get my wedding ring off before the treatment on my hand last year. Got it back on but with difficulty.
  • How is your hand now, Heather?

G had carpal tunnel problems and had both hands "done" which made a huge difference. I forget now what you had with your hands. My hands are huge, BTW - the very largest size in any women's gloves and in rubber gloves for washing up! My father had large hands and so did his mother, my grandmother. Not elegant, sadly, so I've always tried to make up for it by having nice nails and varnish. Now, in the last 12 months, my nails have all broken as if they've given up on me, so no more longer ones.

Been doing mundane HW and laundry. Not sure whether to put my OHs shirts on the line as although there's a breeze, I don't think they'd dry. There are men on ladders next door as the shed roof needs new felt, I suppose it might have got worse in the recent winds. I'm keeping out of the kitchen as they can see straight in!
  • LINDY - my left little finger is as bad as it was before. The same finger on my right hand is due to be done but more invasive treatment would be difficult as I live alone. I have the 'Viking disease' aka Dupuytrens contracture. It runs in families particularly those with Nordic ancestry. The Vikings brought it here centuries ago. An interesting condition, my father's family are to blame according to the medics!
  • Been trying to post for ages. Writing this on my mobile now.

  • LINDY - good to see G's husband has plenty to do, and plenty of people around too.

I seem to remember some cold sleet yesterday and wind during the night, some overnight sleet/rain and the a very cold start - no frost on roofs etc, but there was ice on footways. Then, a bright day today with just occasional cloud and one heavy shower this afternoon. Clean-up still going on in villages nearby.

Had a call this afternoon offering a cancellation appt for Rheumatology - confusing as they said it is being done in Orthopaedic o/p - and I am also due an orthopaedic appt! I have attempted to leave messages to cancel the cleaner so I can attend.

OH did some cleaning today - inside the bathroom cabinets - and I also heard the vacuum cleaner before dinner. Earlier, he fitted a vertical rail at the front door to help me get over the door seal.

    Having a lazy evening.
  • I'm picking up this weeks blog halfway through so not too sure what you've all been up to - mischief perhaps, seriously though , hope all well with you.
Well the storm passed by with not too much damage round our way. Lots of tree debris on the road we follow to church but otherwise reasonably clear. There was a bit of drama in Northampton town where a part of the roof of Sol Central blew off, no-one hurt. Since then we have had it windy with lots of daylight sunshine.
Had to bomb up to Nottingam yesterday as we were told that OH's brother was very poorly and best see him as soon as possible. Dau managed to get the day off and drove us up there. He contracted endocarditis which due to the infection has spread to his back causing an abcess and into his lungs as well. He has always been well without a proper days illness so it hit him hard . Blood pressure is so low and he is not eating - pumped full of antibiotics so is feeling very sorry for himselp. However, today, he has been moved from the Queens Med Centre, Nottingham to Nottingham City Hospital where there is a specialised cardiac unit. S-in-L said he has eaten a bit more but only time will tell. Sorry for the rant but it helps to get it offf the proverbial chest.

Dau busy revising her maths as she hopes to take GCSE maths exam in May/June, never went for it at school. She has English. Its all to do with the possibility of working with children with special needs etc.

Not a lot else to say but will keep looking and seeing what is happening to you all. Take care, keep safe and warm.
