My very thought, Jill - "they can't have put saffron or turmeric in it", I pondered, "but I expect they'd only give them brown rice".  But I've no idea.

I have just recovered (fingers crossed) from a horrendous period of up-and-down internet, hence am probably going to delete multiple fragments of downloads.  I never had such problems before they upgraded me to super-speed (my term for it).

    Boreal Ontario

Fox was first to appear, 05:35:

    Big peanut supply at lunchtime:

It took the Blue Jays about an hour to clear them away Grin

One of the Gray Jays concentrated on the peanut log, the other on the rice-cake:

I haven't seen the Western Meadowlark for several days, I'm going to conclude that it has perished due to the unfriendly climate - hoping that it will therefore reappear very soon! Blush

    Rescue Station Makov

I meant to copy KORKY's copyright...

Just showing how they've been placing fruit 'n veggies behind the bird feeder tray to encourage the deer to come close to the cam - this is the first year I've noticed them do that but others are more observant than I am - me often having tunnel-vision!

This Jay stood looking around with the nut in its beak, then chucked it and swept lots of seeds and nuts out of the tray and eventually flew off with nothing!  But it was back many times afterwards.

As with all devoted curators, a bit of snow doesn't stop the caring going on:

The one-winged swan warned off the one-and-a-half-winged goose:

But the goose wouldn't be put off:

Lots more to do but not tonight!

  • Oh, thanks so much for that Scylla. The tweet. I'm so grateful to people who recognise when wildlife is in trouble and do something about it.
    No I didn't recognise it.

Also, many thanks for most enjoyable videos and great pics

  • Ah, scylla, delightful! It's another morning chuckle thanks to you! The aforementioned new food "CAKE" seems to be a mystery to the "customers" as well as to me! It kinda looked like cooked corn kernels bound together loosely. I also think JUNCO is a good guess since it is feeding on the ground, as they usually do...

    Yessss!

And it's one I might have seen at Starr Ranch SoCal but have not, I shall show it to them.  Thank you very much, CC Blush

EDIT - I've just checked their "Checklist" of birds and it's there.
