Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 29 September 2019

Sorry no replies but have read all your posts, thank you !
Son left this morning, back to his whisky shop tomorrow. He has had six days off which were badly needed. Fortunately he has once again engaged some good part time staff. I have been busy killing moss on the driveway, feeding the washing machine and dishwasher and giving the vacuum cleaner a good workout!

It was cold here this morning, Autumn on it's way.

PAT - I think most of us have found at some time during retirement that we don't know how we ever had time to work!

HEATHER - I wondered how your Son was able to leave the shop for almost a week for the much needed break; I was pleased to see that he has been able to employ staff again. I hope he had a good journey home. You have certainly had a very busy day indoors and out.

OH has now cleared the greenhouse of cucumber and tomato plants - and delivered green tomatoes after all, so I shall be busy making some chutney some time over the weekend - probably on Sunday as the wet forecast should mean there are less wasps about to detect it cooking! Next job will be to clean the greenhouse to make it ready for Geraniums and Fuchsias.

Today was dry all morning but there were two short showers this afternoon. At least the cloud cover keeps the frost at bay! I prepared three meals of beans again today - one to eat and another two to freeze. Chest freezer is rather full now.

We arrived here at 8.45, after waiting all day for the car to be signed off by the garage: it was decided that the best thing would be to forget the meal planned to have on Welsh soil, and just make a quick snack of b. beans on toast so that we could get the car loaded and be on our way. The roads were quite quiet, but it rained a lot of the journey.

Sitting now with a naughty drink, watching the Athletics in Doha. Going to put a hot water bottle in my bed!!

Glad the visit has gone well, Annette. Enjoy dau's birthday and a safe journey home.

HeatherB - you have gone through the mill a bit but thankfully you seem to have come out the other side. Keep smiling through and so pleased you have your children to keep you going. So pleased to hear that you were all able to meet up and have a great time together.

Read this morning that its National Poetry Day, today. How many people remember this one:

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky. /And all I'll need is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by."

I learnt that at school and had to recite it.

In bed now and weary after our busy day (busy week!). Promised ourselves we're not going to do much for a couple of days.

Evening all: Safely ensconced at the Indio motel; got a take-out Chicken Caesar salad from a nearby chain restaurant which I washed down with two tiny bottles of wine. Another early night I think and an early start for home tomorrow. Read posts re National Poetry Day and yes, I remember "I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky...." Also Tiger Tiger burning bright.... What about "Half a league, half a league, half a league onward....? And "The Assyrian came down like a wolf of the fold...." Not to forget "Oh to be in England, now that April's there...."
