Alan, Thanks for the article but there is a small error--the male was a 1998 bird, not 1999, who was translocated to Rutland Water from Scotland as a juvenile and he fledged from Rutland Water.

That is a wonderful story Sheila. 2012 was the year I did not get to Wales so I did not get to see this beauty.

Hi, all. Today's issue of Quanta Magazine (an online science journal) had an article that discusses how humans, birds, and other animals are able to focus attention on a moving object, without becoming distracted by other moving things in the area.

The author gave an example of an osprey that can focus its gaze on a swimming trout but filter out the movement of the water flowing in the river. 

The article has a big, beautiful photo of Blue 28 having just plucked a fish from the water. If I remember correctly (I'm probably wrong), Blue 28 is a Manton Bay, Rutland, bird. 

I just thought others might like to see the large, vivid photo and/or read the article. HERE

You are correct Diana. Blue 28 is a 2010 bird, hatched at Site B and son of the famous 03(97)
He did occupy the Manton Bay nest for a short while but was ousted and went on to breed elsewhere.
At some point he injured a wing and now is easily identified by the misshape, hence he is affectionately known as Wonky Wing. I'd guess that photo was taken from the photographic hide at the local fish farm. It is a classic shot.
