HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY NEW MONTH!

Do check back to last week's thread for some interesting posts: a post from Annette about a wonderful parade, a post from Lindy about spotting a stunning parrot (!), and discussion of hummingbirds, butterflies, and more. There was a lot of activity.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week and enjoys the dog days of summer.

    Our visitor the other day

I think that's a Crimson Rosella, a native of Australia. Careless of its owner to let it escape.

Thank you so much, TeeJay.   It had been reported locally, and then the next day it appeared in our garden and that of our next door neighbour. We tried to feed it, but it was naturally very shy. I rang various local organisations but no one has reported having a missing bird. It has now disappeared again.

  • Our granddaughter Amber:

    Full of beans!!

  • Looks like some of you have had awful weather. Down here just wind, odd sharp shower, and sunshine, mind you the heavens opened last night around midnight.

Forecast for some really windy weather and rain around the country over the next 2 days. Hope you all miss the worst of it.

Have a lovely weekend, all, wherever you are.
  • LINDYBIRD: Enchanting photo of Amber! Ah, the carefree joys of youth.

Geez; What a nasty time for the lights to go out in the UK. Hope things are back to normal by now....

Daughter off home at crack of dawn tomorrow, so lots of laundry on the horizon. Meanwhile, I'm off to get my hair tidied up a bit.
  • We are OK here, but have been shocked by seeing the extent of the power cuts countrywide.

Chaos in airports, etc. How awful for people.

Annette, she is certainly carefree. And a real female, given to chattering. My OH took her with him to walk Bonnie a couple of times. He was gone for 20 - 25 minutes whilst they went around the fields. When they returned he said "she hasn't stopped talking once!!"
  • Pic of her with Bonnie, her Best Friend --

OG/HEATHER: From what I read, it was/is a real mess, so I immediately thought of the folks on this thread. Not that you all are a mess. LOL!!! You know what I mean.... LOL!

I'm always in a mess, LOL!!

  • LINDA – Chattering Amber? Imagine that times two. <grin>

We haven’t blown away though weather did try hard last 2 days. We’ve had almost an inch of rain but it is not widespread. On Thursday while we had rain, much of the state was covered by duststorms with visibility reduced to a few metres. Two B-double trucks crashed head-on between Truro & Blanchetown. It is thought one came over a rise and tried to avoid a car stopped in middle of road. Little to be done in such dust as nowhere for large trucks to pull off road. Both drivers killed.

  • Good Morning. Both of us weary here after a patchy night. Don't know if it was the gusty wind which kept us awake but we both slept rather badly.

AQ -- LOL, the thought of two Ambers, both chattering, is an exhausting prospect!! What a dreadful crash to have happened, and the dust storms are something we don't experience of course. I meant to say that you might have known what our exotic visitor was, when you saw my pic.

Off to stock up on food so that we can have a lazy weekend.
  • Here on the borders of Surrey and West Sussex we were a bit behind a lot of the country with power cuts. Ours started this morning just after 6.00am - heard the 'pips' for the news, and then silence. It was out for about an hour and a half. Gatwick is only a few miles away, but I don't know if the power cut spread over there as well. Now we have strong winds and scudding clouds. I'm off to a wedding later - hope the rain stays away, the winds drop and the electricity remains stable.

    Have a good day, everyone.
