This is a wonderful book describing how the ospreys were first extirpated in Scotland around 1916 and then were found to return in 1954.
A number of people on the forum now have a copy so we can have a discussion about it.
Here is what the book looks like. Its ISBN number is: 9780434089109

Morning all, I bought one of those £7.75 books yesterday, less than the Amazon ones, although I think some of the sellers are the same. ETA next Wednesday-ish.
(Tiger, liked your "stick" comment on Daily!)

I seems that whatever you put in Google, someone, somewhere has written about it. I tried 'secondhand book sales surge'.........and I got Abebooks comment as top result.

Only 21 copies left now. I wonder where the two went today?

You will enjoy it so much. I have said before it has been the most influential book of my life. For about 25 years I had a single copy and I never expected to see another. Then I discovered online books.
I bought 8 copies in 2007 and sent them to various people. Now a really spooky thing happened. I sent one to a woman on Long Island. I had posted the book but it was far too soon for her to have received it. Then in an e-mail she asked for my address as she wanted to send me something. I assumed it was a pamphlet.
Anyway the packages crossed in the post and when mine arrived it turned out to be a bird book by Dennis Puleston.
This person featues in "Soaring with Fidel".
That's a spooky thing, for sure ! Well, now you have got me on to something else as I have Googled the book you mention and it looks interesting, - more ospreys - they are just such fascinating birds.
My book arrived on 1 Sept, exactly as predicted, they are down to 19 now at Abebooks so more have gone. Just starting to read it but will be fitting it in between other things, and probably only in bed so it will be slow work!
Mine arrived a week ago and I am threequarters through it, though I did skip some of the bits where they were being wiped out. Too sad. Interesting now though about the early days of conservation.
