This is a wonderful book describing how the ospreys were first extirpated in Scotland around 1916 and then were found to return in 1954.
A number of people on the forum now have a copy so we can have a discussion about it.
Here is what the book looks like. Its ISBN number is: 9780434089109

Valc i have a friend who is like us but with peregrines and another loves sea wtching..i am still trying to change them. they dont know what they are missing
They certainly don't, Sunshine! Ospreys have such personalities. Probably not the correct word but you know what I mean!!
VALC I like your statement that Ospreys have personalities. That may not be the word experts would use, but from where I sit it is exactly the right word. Most of the ones I have observed at the LG nest have very distinct Personalities. Why else would we fall in love with them so quickly once we find them?
With so many people reading Scottish Ospreys just now it would be great if you could give your impressions in this thread. I cannot believe how brilliant a book this really is. To think that life might have all been different if I had not bought it in a Susan Reynold bookshop in London round about 1982. It was also at a rock bottom price.
I'm waiting for my book to arrive. It's already been shipped!
EDIT: I promise to post my impressions on this thread when I have read it. I can't wait now that I have bought it!!
Tiger, I received my copy this morning. Bought from Abe Books. Will start to read it later in the week and will no doubt let you know what I think of it.
I thought Roy Dennis's "Life of Ospreys" was a great book to read, I think - - forget about his MBE, he deserves a Knighthood for dedicating his life to Wildlife and mainly Osprey's, he has went above and beyond the call of duty, done the most amazing things, drove and flown thousands and thousands of miles all for the love of Ospreys, what he has done goes beyond just an MBE.

Daisy Ray and Mary I look forward to hearing what you think of the book. Perhaps we need to start a campaign for RD to get an Knighhood!

That is a question I have asked before. See "What Makes Ospreys So Fascinating?"

Well Abebooks has got one at £3 + £3.30 shipping. That is the best price around just now.
This is a very good tool for finding used books.
