This is a wonderful book describing how the ospreys were first extirpated in Scotland around 1916 and then were found to return in 1954.
A number of people on the forum now have a copy so we can have a discussion about it.
Here is what the book looks like. Its ISBN number is: 9780434089109

George Waterston's friends probably consider him a bit strange to be going to such great effort to protect the Ospreys. Today we enjoy the fruits of his insight and dedication.
There is an old Chinese proverb that says : When you enjoy a drink of water don't forget to thank the person who dug the well.
Reading about and seeing pictures of the beginnings of Loch Garten was also fascinating.
Loch Garten exists today due to people like George Waterston, the RSPB , the volunteers and those who contribute money for the maintenance of the property .
I will look for a book on Dennis Puleston. Any suggestions on a good one?
Thank you

I was just checking up on this book the other day. I notice that some copies have moved in recent times. I wonder if any were bought by people in the forum.
TIGER i got it from a man who used to drive for me a few years ago. i read a few chapters but i misplaced it . a few weeks ago i found in my loft . it now has the pride of place in my book shelf . i gave him one pound for it . is that value for money.

It is a fabulous book. I cannot remember what I paid for mine but it was no more than £4 at maximum (£2 more likely) way back in 1983 or so in a Susan Reynolds shop. I thought I would never see another copy! I did not until about 2006 or therabouts.
So only 18 copies now. Clearly someone else bought one. I wonder who?
