This is a wonderful book describing how the ospreys were first extirpated in Scotland around 1916 and then were found to return in 1954.
A number of people on the forum now have a copy so we can have a discussion about it.
Here is what the book looks like. Its ISBN number is: 9780434089109

It is that time of year again when one can look back at the past with a book. I notice that there are a few fairly cheap copies of this great book available.
News of someone having got these book today.
I bought my copy of this book when it was first published and I pre-ordered it at the time. I'm probably showing my age by that. But I was born in the 1950's, so that gives a clue. I'm still reading my book today.
Regards,
Ian.

I used it only yesterday and no doubt will do so again soon. In my view one of the most fantastic books ever written. It would be great to have a book covering the first 60 years of the Loch Garten Ospreys.

There would be quite a few missing years.
It's my preferred Osprey book (sorry Roy) - found and will find it an amazing read. Thanks for the referral TIGER
I think that Scottish Ospreys and "Life of Ospreys" are both great books. The thing is that they really do two different jobs. "Scottish Ospreys" tells us about the early days while "Life of ospreys is a much more up to date and has a much wider scope. Both great books.

Unknown said:I'd throw "The Return of the Osprey" - Brown & Waterston 1962 into the ring as well. Although much of the information is repeated in Brown's 1979 book I tend to prefer George Waterton's writing style in his chapter.
I did not take to "The Return of The Osprey" at all. For whatever reason I found it a deeply disappointing book.
