Weekly Chat, Sunday July 25, 2010

Hi all:  First off, con't miss the last page of last week's chat for lovely photo of Alan's hibiscus and OG's very informative shots of the nest at LG, showing the perch under the nest where chick #1 likes to sit.

OG. Assume plumber on the list for next week.  So Boat of Garten actually has something to do with a real boat!  I thought it was some obscure Scottish vernacular-ish term that had nothing to do with a boat.  There was a nature program here last week about "preparing" an environment for some species that are living in an area that is expected to be threatened by higher ocean levels in the coming years. As with the Lapwings, the change has to be made gradually.

Cirrus.  A 12-mile hike! I probably burned a couple of hundred calories just thinking about it.

Was in the garden all day - as I type have the soaker hose going on the camellias, which I fed and which need deep watering about twice in the summer; they're putting out buds now.  Also fed the roses and plumeria. Found a volunteer duranta repens growing in one of the plumeria pots - I thought it was familiar but only recognized it today.    Sun came out around 11 and lovely cool evening now.

  • Thanks dibnlib  very kind of you I sort of feel I am not helping as much as I would like in posting pics on the site for those that miss happenings on the nest.

    Lovely photos as well.

Above 2 pics taken by OH along the banks of the Beauly Firth with one more to come

HEATHER think it was you and maybe Margo who asked for help in how to do this, have to go to library then will see what I can do

thanks to you also, dibnlib, I feel such a technophobical idiot at times------

  • dibnlib sorry to hear about your tooth.  I have lost a few teeth but I too don't want to wear dentures.  Hope your implant dentist can do the job for you.  Gosh things are so expensive would have to take out a loan I think.

  • don't know what MW Snap is,  Heather  ha ha , I thought it was just me who lived under a stone :)

OK I will also explain how to download this for free from the internet ......... later............

  • Afternoon all ... bit gloomy here, rain forecast ... I hope there is enough so that I don't have to water the garden   :-)

Been busy putting stuff back in my new cupboards ... OH offered to help ... BUT ..... I decided to do it myself!

When I nipped up to the local shop this afternoon I was amazed to see a flock(?) of lapwings that must have been well over 100. There are usually a good few in the field across from the beach, but I have never seen that many. They were lifting off en masse and it was a lovely sight, after all the reports I have read of their numbers declining. RE butterflies, I too have seen very few this year.

dibnlib - sorry to hear about your dental problems ... not a pleasant thought. Lovely photographs you posted. A foxglove coloured jacket ... sounds wonderful.

OG - I too have a trough of wildflowers (weeds!) in the garden ... I have been doing that for a few years now, and usually there are loads of butterflies and bees on them, but not this year. Lovely photo of your pot. No butterflies on my buddleia either :-(

auntie - I hope your weather has cooled down a bit ... your high temperatures were mentioned on our weather forecast today!

Lindybird - i hope you enjoyed your lunch and natter with your friend.  Fresh green beans ... yes please!!

Brenda H - I'm too late to wish you a safe journey, but I hope that all went well for your daughter.

margobird - so, you are off to Goodwood tomorrow ... how lovely ... just as well you have a relaxing Sunday planned!

    Thanks to anyone I've missed!

    Take care

  • Afternoon all,

Thanks for all the chat and pics. Not had much time to comment today but interesting to read everyones posts.

We also have a buddleia without any butterflies. There are a few bees around but not many butterflies.

The weather today has been cloudy but warm and still no sign of rain.

Just had a friend who wanted to dog walk on the phone, but although Dillon had a really good walk off the lead this aft, think we will keep it short and sweet this eve, just in case there are further probs if we overdo it so had to say no.
