Weekly Chat, Sunday July 17, 2010

Hi all: Just a heads up - we're getting Server Error messages but posts are making it onto the thread. Just means you have to keep reloading the page.  Check out last few posts of previous Weekly Chat to find out what kind of visitors TerryM had at her bird feeder yesterday. I blathered a bit but nothing to miss the ospreys for; pretty quiet in fact with some of the regulars off on vacation.

  • From today's Daily Telegraph, the following photographs, the magnificent osprey shot is No 12 in the sequence....Auntie: it is a Finnish one as well! :-0)

  • Woo Hoo!  jsb:   What great photos those are! - Thanks very much indeed for the link - & of course, the best pic is of the osprey!!!

Also liked the owl (of course)  and remember seeing those walking on water lizards on TV and being fascinated by their strange gait.   That man must have the patience of a saint to go to such lengths to get the pictures.

Welcome Back, OG.  We shall want to hear all about your visit to LG,  & especially what you saw there.

Can't do much tonight, but just had to let you know - I discovered I have a camera shot of chick#3's near miss!  I need to crop and edit, but will try to post tomorrow.  When it set off Tuesday morning on its second ever flight, I just kept clicking to see what I could get, and was very lucky.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi, all. Really tired tonight and on my way to bed. Just wanted to say:

Welcome back, OG! Glad to have you back. It's just not the same on here without you.

Lindy and Alan: Really lovely photos. I enjoyed them. I love the water birds!

Heather: Welcome back to you. I'm so sorry that your stepdaughter must be in hospital, and I so hope that they can help her. I'm glad that your son-in-law in Afghanistan is okay, and I hope he stays safe. I'm so sorry that your family must cope with so much ongoing stress.

George G: I'm so very sorry about your brother-in-law's condition. Take solace from the fact that you and your sister-in-law have done everything that you could possibly do. Take good care of yourself and try to get some rest.

Annette: Hope your husband's trip began without any hitches and that you arrived back from LA okay. I don't envy you driving in that traffic. You lived by yourself in Long Beach, so I'm assuming that you won't be afraid alone there.(?) Pamper yourself.

    Night, all.

I had a multi-task morning, paying bills, food shopping, swopping library books and delivering wee knitted things to mums & bubs home. Previously I have had a cool "Thank you" for the latter. Full marks for today’s receptionist - she was so enthusiastic I came away feeling special. Oops, just a minute while I readjust my halo. Not so lucky at library. It seems Lynda La Plante is popular & I shall have put my name in a queue. Drat. Drat. Drat.

Lindybird - Your swan pic appears but the Grey Crowned Cranes have been red-X’ed. So too my avatar. The gremlins must have noticed the lack of housework around here. LOL

Annette -  You won't be alone, not with all of us keeping an eye on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey folks,  I just discovered how to get that large print. I hit Control plus !, instead of Shift plus ! Needless to say I deleted & retyped.

  • Evening all:  Long day here. Got back about an hour ago from dropping OH off in LA and picked up salad from lovely little restaurant around the corner (spinach with red onion, yummy little tomatoes, mushrooms, goat cheese and warm bacon dressing).  Managed to choke that down with - ahem - a generous amount of wine and top it off with some lovely dark chocolate. Traffic wasn't too bad; stopped at wonderful Target on the way home and stocked up with household stuff...  Through Malibu, saw three separate film/TV crews, cluttering up various place with their huge white trucks and closing down parts of the road. But the best part of the ride was on the way home: Was driving right by the ocean and there, on a little outcropping right over the surf, a young kid had set up a large set of drums and was going at them full tilt, hair flying in all directions. Made me smile.

OH  got off on time; due at Heathrow at 2:15 p..m Thursday.

GeorgeG:  A shame we can't follow this very special trio; still there's always Rothes, lolling at Guinea Basseu (or somewhere like that).   Hope your camera doesn't take too long to fix.  Oh dear, sounds like the hospital is the best place for BiL. What a shame, but probably too great a burden for your SiL to handle on her own.  I'm sure you're being a great help to her.  Do take care of yourself.

Welcome back Heather!  Boy. That was a fast week!   Too bad about the waether and oh dear, not good that stepdaughter has taken a turn for the worse after a year of sobriety. Hardly seems right....    Nice that SiL on telly but can imagine the shock for your daughter. I bet they're looking forward to the visit.

Welcome back OG:   Hey, hey, the gang's all here!   Wonderful you saw all five birds at LG. Apparently #3 is on a long learning curve re landing skills!

Lindybird: Such a good idea to send appreciation to the troops via Heather; may I join you?  I often think of all those young men some of whom would have no idea what they were getting into. Gorgeous swans.

Diane: No problem hanging out solo; but Lightning was really happy to see me roll into the driveway! He pets her a lot and, as I type, she's decided I'm the next best option!

AQ; Glad you finally got some enthusiastic thanks for your efforts.  Your halo looks just fine to me! Funny - we learn so much about formatting by sheer error!  :-)   Oh no!  It'll get pretty crowded around here with you lot babysitting me!  :-)

Nice to see/hear from everyone; thanks for links and pix and news!  Off to bed now. Take care all.

  • Morning, All.  Poured with rain throughout most of the night for us.  Stopped now for a bit.  Dog had to sleep on the floor next to his Dad as he was worried about the possibility of thunder - the rain makes a terrific noise on our conservatory roof, which is off the dining/kitchen area where he normally sleeps, so that makes him nervous.

Glad that Annettes  OH got off OK and hope he arrives rested for his visit here, after that upgrade!  Loved your story about the drummer, Annette!

My OH came home mid day yesterday saying he felt dizzy & he felt clammy, so had a bit of a rest and then struggled through the day but went to bed early.  I felt a bit 'off' in the morning, so perhaps we had some virus thing going around - anyway, we are both fine today so that's the end of that. I went to a friend's yesterday afternoon to admire the new en suite bathroom just installed ( Yes, Annette,  it was my Extravagant Friend! - & yes, they have spent an amazing amount of money on the fittings, but must say it looks very nice). I have a mixed day today doing all sorts of 'stuff' so must go get started on it now.

  • Good Morning ALL.

OG; Lovely to see you back and look forward to seeing your photographs.

AQ. The halo suits you. Thanks for the computer ' tip'. I made that mistake yesterday and couldn't work out how it happened.

Heather; Sorry to hear about your stepdaughter after her success of the past year.

Annette: I should think you will have collapsed in bed after your hectic day. Now you just have to wait for that phone call from your OH to say he has arrived.  Loved the story of the 'Lone Drummer Boy.'

Thanks for all other news. I can hear noise from the nest.

  • Just posted picture of #3's Tuesday morning crash landing on Daily Update.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • ODIN THE MAGNIFICENT - I never knew Ospreys would land in such low forest "scrub" - well below the surrounding tall trees - out of sight of EJ to escape her "nagging"!
