Weekly Chat, Sunday July 17, 2010

Hi all: Just a heads up - we're getting Server Error messages but posts are making it onto the thread. Just means you have to keep reloading the page.  Check out last few posts of previous Weekly Chat to find out what kind of visitors TerryM had at her bird feeder yesterday. I blathered a bit but nothing to miss the ospreys for; pretty quiet in fact with some of the regulars off on vacation.

  • Good morning from a wet Adelaide. The promised "showers" hasn't let up all morn. I woke with a sore throat & a kode in the node. That may explain why I found last night’s dinner disappointing. The food that is, not the company & conversation. I had quail with couscus (some genetic mutation as the quail comprised 3 legs LOL) - not cooked enough for my liking. I thought dessert choices poor and decided on something called bougatsa, Greek, custard baked in filo pastry. It was far too sweet. Other 3 enjoyed their food, so probably my fault. I shall hibernate today with foot warmer & ospreys.

If at first you don't succeed
    - read the directions
    - try something harder
    - you are about average
    - pass the blame immediately
    - see if the loser gets anything
    - destroy all the evidence that you tried
    - start looking around for someone to blame
    - you may be at your level of incompetence already

If at first you do succeed, it probably wasn't too difficult

  • Apologies if this has already been reported. Hope & Lily the bears are back together after 6 weeks separation. http://www.bear.org/website/lily-a-hope/den-cam-video-clips.html has a delightful video of them foraging.

  • Hey AQ:  Had to break down and read the instructions on flat-screen telly last week.  And yes, someone reported that Hope and Lily were back together and enjoying life.  Good news!   Too bad about your dinner - don't you hate that?  I just came in from dinner with friends and as with you, friends and conversation good but food (never brilliant at this neighborhood place) not quite up to their usual sort of good standard.  :-)   Hope it stops raining as soon as you've had enough of it.

  • Site is painfully slow this morning with "server error" messages, but posts are getting through.

  • Hi, all.

I've read all the posts about the fledging controversy. Did Chick #3 fledge? Well, I know with absolute certainty which chick flew from the nest yesterday. It was Chick #4. Definitely, Chick #4. I'd swear to it.

    (LOL!)

AQ: I hope you recover from your "kode in the node" and sore throat quickly. I guess it would be cold and flu season for you Aussies. Take some vitamins and swill some orange juice. The Pacific Ducks haven't arrived for cake yet. Hope they aren't near here, because we had a wicked lightning storm tonight -- one of those where one could see streaks of lightning running along the ground. I hope you get as much rain as you need there.

Annette: Glad you had a nice evening, despite mediocre food. Sorry about grandson's plea. He's lucky to have you.

Lindy: Had to laugh at your description of Buzz the Dog and his biscuit. That's the way mine used to eat them and with lots of slobbers.

dibnlib: Speaking of dogs, I've been meaning to ask you: Did you ever take Dillon out in a canoe? Was he able to jump out without capsizing it? So did you buy a canoe? Maybe you've already said and I missed your post. I'm so very, very sorry that your Mum has pre-Alzheimers. Very difficult and stressful for all of you. My brother is like your niece, so I can relate.

Paul/Heron77: Glad to see you on the chat thread. Always enjoy your reports on the Daily Update.

Ok, I'm off to bed. Everyone have a wonderful Sunday.

  • Diane:  :-)) Chick #4! Of course!    Have never heard about lightning running along the ground.  That sounds really scary (?) My spelling is going down the toilet. Must get a dictionary closer to the laptop. Take care with the storms.

  • Diane - Chick #4 indeed <big grin> Hey, what was in your nightcap? So when will #5 & #6 fledge?

Chick #5 will fledge on 20 July in the evening, and Chick #6 will go on 21 July, followed by the Ghost Parrot. And I'm drinking iced tea. :-)

  • The Ghost Parrot!!!  :-)))  Thought he'd decided to stay in Africa.  I'm off to bed; just looked at the guest list for tomorrow morning's Meet the Press and see they've scheduled the leaders of various Republican and Democratic senatorial/re-election committees, which means OH and I will hide behind the newspaper and give the show a pass.  Night all.

  • I'd forgotten about the ghost parrot !!!!!!!!!!!! Where can I hide? We have another election next month - a Federal one this time. If only they had a box to tick "None of the above" <sigh>
