Daily Update (LG Nest) Sunday July 18th

Hi everyone, I've not been in much to the site today, on and off. It was thought that the youngest had fledged but this is in doubt and until it is confirmed by The Team we can assume that it hasn't yet.

There have certainly been some near takeoffs and helped by the wind, the youngest has jumped and "flown" across the nest but this is all.   It has been the eldest getting bolder and the middle one taking on more flights. There's time yet.

Peaceful scene here with two young on the nest and the eldest probably on the cam post or way to the left at the edge,, don't really know where he is.

Happy viewing and we'll see what to day brings.  Over to the night shift.

  • EJ and youngster arrive at nest.  I assume it was GEM #1.

  • I think EJ is calling Odin to bring a  fish and at least  two  chicks are helping her food solicit. Now she flew off. Perhaps to  go fishing

#2 is always the  first to  hit the  deck.

It was interesting how  the eldest rushed to the  nest as  EJ did. It appeared  he wanted  to help defend the nest. It took him awhile before he decided to lay down

Until Titch losses the  feather hanging from his beak we can identify him  that  way LOL

  • Annette. When you say a loud single slowish cheep,  unless our wires are crossed I'm thinking of a buzzard.  Of course we may be thinking of two totally different bird sounds though.

Heron: Can you ID that bird? I've heard it three nights in a row and don't know what it is? Loud, single slowish cheep...oh, gone again, darn.  Sure not an osprey.

  • Heads up.  Don't hit the refresh button on the "server error" page.  I did, and that's why my post at 5:28 is the same as my post at 5:21.

  • EJ left about 10 minutes ago.

Yes Barbara Jean - that's why I originally thought it was Odin coming to support EJ; didn't realize it was #1 until it lay (laid?) down.

Heron: Maybe the mystery bird will hang out a bit longer one night when you're on. Very regular, repetitive, sort of slowish (compared to ospreys) cheap. No matter. I won't let it keep me awake.

Lynette:  Forgot to congratulate you on your brilliant video achievement!!  Geez.  See how smart you get when you join this group (wonder when it'll be my turn).  :-)

  • Heron: I'm hitting the Post button and then, finally, getting the "server error" message. I then hit the "Back" button/arrow on my browser twice and it takes me back first to the now-empty Reply page, then to the posts. It's faster than closing the window and going back to Square 1 (at least for me).

  • Thanks Annette.  I was clicking on my bookmark for the RSPB Community forum, then going though the last LG post link in "My Page".  Your way's faster though.

  • Is that Titch up on the far right, now flapping?   Was just on Weekly Chat where Diane had been reading the various opinions on who did or did not fledge yesterday. She says she's absoutely convinced it was chick #4!  :-)))

  • Here is EJ with a fish. An intruder must have followed  her back as she  is  screeching and mantling.

Any intruder who thinks EJ will  relinquish her fish is sadly mistaken

All three chick are singing the "We Want Food Chorus"
