LINK TO JULY,
Birdies LG DU update.
3AU had a small fish (or part of it!) not too long before 5pm. 33 had delivered a fish to the nest, thought to be a small trout by a volunteer in the Waderscrape hide. 3AU took the fish to the higher of the two main trunks of the fallen Poplar tree to the right of the nest. 33 retired to a partly hidden branch halfway up the Poplar tree above the fallen tree. Maya spent most of the hour and a bit while we were there sitting on the perch to the left of the nest, although she was briefly on the nest, only going back to the perch when 3AU returned to the nest. Had he dropped part of his fish? Some in the hide thought so because he hadn't been eating for very long when he flew back to the nest. What a thrill to be able to see the three of them in person!
Kind regards, Ann
Thank you Ann. Accounts for why we rarely see them on the nest now.
Good that you managed to see them. Reward for your time at Birdfair!
3AU there at the moment.
Morning Mike

Hi Alison. 'Seen' Mary at Balgavies.
Given how 'early' this nest is for laying etc it's remarkable they're still around when other, 'later' nests have left
Hi Everyone. Thanks for all the pics and posts. Yes, Mike, I'm so glad 3AU waited for us but I think his hanging around most likely had more to do with fish--lol! I see 3AU is still shouting his head off. Maya is probably facing away from him on the perch and 33 is probably sitting in the shady Poplar tree with his wing tips in his ears (or he wishes he could do just that!) I think part of the 'problem' for them is that 3AU must have heard the story that his big half-sister (Blue 3J (13)), now Queen of the Dyfi, hung around far longer than her siblings on the Manton Bay nest when she was a juvenile, shouting VERY loudly at her parents, 5R and Mrs 5R (now Maya), to bring her some FISH because she hadn't eaten in at least half an hour and was clearly starving to death. And now look where she is?! And 3AU plans to do just the same (but of course he will nest nearer to Rutland because he's a Mummy's boy!)
Fish delivery!
That was odd. 33 brought in a fish and it looked as though he then flew off with it after a struggle with Junior who shouted a bit and immediately also flew off. Did I really see that?
Well there's no one there now Ann.
