Good looking Bird
For a time between Limpy's posts of 2.27pm and 5.49pm on the 3rd of July we were in the 360 Observatory, arriving about 3.30pm-ish and leaving about 4-ish. During that time Monty was off the nest for a period and was energetically dive-bombing what looked to be a Heron or Herons, occasionally with their heads just visible above the top of a ditch or a dip in the ground surface. After a time a few Crows began diving at him and he finally gave up and returned to the nest. He seemed to have tired himself out because he kept nodding off for a while. What a star!

Monty and Herons are not the best of friends Ann. There is a great video of him last year doing exactly as you describe.

Everyone, Many thanks for the pics and posts!
Mike, Yes, I remember vividly the Heron/Osprey event at Dyfi last year. I was watching the whole thing on live streaming and had the sound on which I almost never do. The Heron's noise sounded like something being tortured, it was horrendous. I couldn't at first work out where the awful noise was coming from. It was probably a youngster Heron who didn't know what to do when being dived on so it took a long time to fly off. At the same time I could hear voices which may have been at the nearby station. It wasn't just Monty, but Glesni as well who was diving on the Heron. She and Monty seemed to be taking turns for part of the time although she was also staring out from the nest, presumably at the Heron, but then calmly feeding chicks during part of it as well. It went on for far longer than the Dyfi blog said afterwards!
