HAPPY NEW WEEK!
I hope everyone has a wonderful spring week! I chose this photo for the week for a reason. The last time I went to town for groceries and supplies, I stopped to take some items to my relative who broke her hip. I arrived home very late. I was unloading the car in the darkness, barely able to see with a torch (flashlight), and suddenly I heard a booming loud call, "Who cooks for you! Who cooks for you all!" That's the call of a Barred Owl! The sound was coming from a tall tree on my creek levee.I was just about finished getting everything inside, when the bird called again. This time, he made his "monkey call." Barred Owls can make a wild series of calls that sound just like a big, loud primate. Seriously. Many years ago, we had a Barred Owl pair nesting on this patch, and my Mom swore we had a Bigfoot living in the woods! I was so happy to hear the big owl, and I hope he stays!Barred Owl (Strix varia)U.S. National Park ServicePhoto labeled Public Domain (Copyright Free)
Thanks, OG! We had a lovely afternoon. Weather was overcast at first so we watched Mamma Mia (again) because Amy and her Mum wanted to! Cup cakes, courtesy of Amy, and some prosecco!
Really enjoying your photos, Lindy! Especially like the magpies' nest - let's hope they have a successful season.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
We have just had a lovely visit to Fairburn Ings in Yorkshire. Quite a busy VC, but once you left it behind, idyllic, met a few people, but not hoards. Good selection of waterfowl including spoonbills, egrets. Large population of herons. Heard a few cuckoos, and Bittern, which I'd never heard before, (bittern that is). A lovely afternoon.

Cathy, nice to see your post - you're welcome to visit for a chat about anything, anytime! But as Alan says, there are special forums for each place :-)
Hey, Heather. Glad you had a nice afternoon. I popped in to ask you when your son-in-law is expected back to Scotland from Houston/New Orleans?
Cathy: Nice to see you here!!! I like herons and egrets, too.
Hi DIANE
Not sure when P is coming home. He is presently working at the workshop in Houston. He has been offered a job in the US based in Houston but going offshore. He has to consider the offer...
Good Morning. White puffy clouds like a giant duvet above us, today.
Here too, LINDA - and possible showers in the afternoon. Going for blood tests this morning and risking shopping straight after - with lunch.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Hope they can find some veins without puncturing you too much, OG.
The sun is now trying to come out, here. Exciting prospects ahead for me, such as mopping floors!
