As a very wise old woman (who is too modest to be named) said yesterday "Deep breath! Let's see what today brings" ;-)
Probably the most beautiful female osprey in the world (compliments of Clare):
And the source of our discomfort, looking a little shamefaced, as well he might (compliments of Moffer):
Off we go !!!
==========================
The Daily Update is for recording nest events only, allowing for banter, though—any questions or conversations can happen on the Osprey Chat thread. Thank you!
IMAGICAT
She's back:
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Currently EJ is persistently food begging but the male continues to sit and ignore her!
EJ forces him off the eggs, and is constantly calling for fish.
He's flown
He comes back for another mating....failed and gone. EJ calls after him, 'don't forget the fish'
She was on the nest, calling i don’t know what for anymore, the tones were ”inconsistent”?..., he flew in and mated, but not including the difficult aiming-for-the-tail-bit. And off he was again
2016: first time in history an Osprey nested in the NL. 2018: 2 active nests! 2019 a storm interferes. 2020: a third active nest in a tree!
Another mating attempt after EJ shoves him of her eggs.
Male has now flown and EJ settles and is now quiet.
So you should be looking frightened. EJ is rather good at leaning:
He flies off but (inevitably) returns:
Catch up. 8.35 EJ is pipping (contact call) and gets up
Here comes GJ, empty taloned
EJ leaves
GJ arrives
and takes over incubation
See you all later. Please let her get a substantial fish today.
I'd like to thank you all, would put name by name but afraid of missing anyone out. Without this forum I would be lost..... so concerned that EJ doesnt seem to have the right male!!!
