  • LINDY  Do hope your son gets his pressie.

  • Thanks OG - I had an idea that was the case but wasn't 100% sure.

  • I'm having a lunch break, with an aching back from lugging stuff around the garden. I've decided to fill in the pond and put plants in it. It is a very small kidney shaped pond, the mini fountain pump and trickling water feature have stopped working and it is just one thing too many for me to manage. Herons got the fish - hope they enjoyed them!

  • Sounds like a good idea to me, Heather. Ponds are extra work, which is why I've never had one. Have had a fountain or two, though, and would like another now, but my OH keeps dissuading me.  I expect the herons enjoyed!

Lovely day here, and we sat in the garden for a while. I washed my OHs socks, which are always so um, fragrant, that they have to make up a w. machine load on their own..... then we sat and paired them off when they were dry. Don't tell me I don't have an exciting life!

  • Ps -- Not heard from my son yet!

  • Hi, ALL.

Weather a bit disappointing - some sunshine but still the cool breeze.  I did however go in the garden wearing my warmest shirt and a fleece!  I planted out some French Marigolds in the very large pots which the Alstroemerias used to be in (lost them in the winter - I think most of our winter casualties were due to months of extreme wet, rather than the cold).

J arrived home - he stayed over Friday night rather than travel on busy Bank holiday Friday night trains.  All went well at his appointments at The Christie but both specialists are requesting further tests to be ordered by his GP.

We made two decisions yesterday - we have booked a couple of short-stay breaks this month and next.  The first is starting next Sunday for just three nights in Fife - to see how we cope.  If it goes well, we shall go for a little longer in June, which we can cancel if the experiment is unsuccessful!

Did I ever tell you that Dau#2 cancelled the celebration plans she had made for July?  She decided, after all the work of planning right down to the last detail, that it was all too much hassle!  This evening she sent an email to say they got married yesterday in Inverness - no details.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • I can so understand your daughters decision as families are so complicated..

    Sent you a message ..:-)

  • Good Evening All,

OG-    I can understand your daughter's decision also.

Some friends were planning a 50th Wedding Anniversary party in September, but decided it was too much hassle. They have booked a holiday instead.

Your planned breaks sound  a lovely idea. I hope the first one goes well.

Lindy,  I had to smile about the socks! At least you have a washing machine to deal with the fragrant items.

I started married life without a machine. (old person alert) I don't know how I managed now.

When we were in our teens, my sister said that she would only get married if she could face washing the  chosen one's socks. She has remained single! (probably not for that reason, though)

Many younger couples share the chores now though, don't they? My OH is not sure how the washing machine works.

  • OG --  Sometimes things can certainly seem to get over complicated, and there is also pressure to do celebrations in order to suit other people. I hope all will be well for the couple. Glad that J is home again after visiting the Christie.

Rosy - We inherited a very old washing machine from my in laws when we married: It was a huge monster, and had to be hauled out and filled up with water before I set it off, roaring and rattling. I'm very grateful now for my modern machine! My OHs size 12 feet are very hard on his socks, he wears them out fast. Socks are subsequently always on his birthday and Christmas lists.

Edit:  I've shown him how to use the w. machine, but I'm not sure he could cope with it. He does cope with the dishwasher, though, both filling and emptying!

  • Not been on all week as not had computer. Went for repair as Microsoft Edge just stopped working although Google chrome worked in fits and starts. Now mended and seems to be working well so far.

Not going to look back but hope all of you are well - enjoy the Bank Holiday break with the promise of some very warm weather.
