Annette: I'm glad your flight was fairly uneventful and you arrived in Chicago okay.
I considered trying to coordinate a meet-up with you, but I was worried about working out the logistics. Chicago is a very demanding city to drive in, and my car is really old and I carry only the bare minimum of insurance. I thought about taking the Amtrak train from Crawfordsville, but we only have one train per day, and it's wildly unreliable. The train is often hours late, and it's a 4 hour trip. I didn't want to risk messing up your itinerary. Also, my Amtrak Station is just a little building, and it doesn't have any staff at all working there. So we have to order tickets well in advance, and tickets are difficult to get because the trains are always full. I would have loved to meet you face to face, but I was afraid the logistics would be a mess.I envy you the train trip. That journey you are taking will be so beautiful. I see that you have a very nice day for your departure from Chicago. I HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!!
I did, LINDY! We met at a restaurant and had mother/daughter lunch, then walked around the shops before collecting Isla from school. Then home to daughter's house and an hour with the two girls before going back to the train station. Forty minutes journey, the gorse was in full bloom and all the trees bursting with leaves. Son in law is still in the US, now in Houston. He has been offered a job there with the US division of his company but despite the temptation of more money doesn't think he wants to move the family.
It is indeed a little building, DIANE!
I envy your mother/daughter lunch, Heather! - sons are not the same!
Speaking of sons, my Eldest just texted me to say that he has not received our birthday present for him, sent for over a week ago and hoped it would 've been delivered for his birthday last Tuesday. I looked on Amazon and they are now promising delivery by tomorrow - Grr!
Hope it arrives OK,LINDY but assume you are tracking it so it should be OK (if late). Mostly Amazon has been good, for me. Some things arrive extremely quickly up here in the far north, even though I don't have Amazon Prime.
I've often been impressed by their service. And it's a life saver for me, not to have t o pack up and send things through the post, myself. But this was a 'direct from the manufacturer' order so maybe that's where it's gone wrong.
Think you are probably quite right, LINDY. Disappointing, though.
Good Morning. Sunshine through my window! I hope everyone has a lovely day. (Including Diane!)
Good morning all!
I'm sorry that you didn't have this weather for your W/E away, LINDY but at least you won't be on the roads full of Bank Holiday traffic. I'm planning a gardening weekend. It is cloudy but warm (ish) at the moment.
This is the view from our bedroom this morning - no wonder I'm sneezing, with all this rapeseed!
Heather - We're not too worried, there will be other opportunities for sun in Wales. We also plan to spend time in the garden today.
