Granddaughter Amy ( on study leave!) Was in town today on her own. She was approached by a smartly dressed young man who said he was from a church that I won't mention. He asked her for her mobile number so that he could chat to her about his faith etc. Amy refused but told her Mum, who phoned the police. They were visited by a constable who said that the police would investigate because this was of concern.

Thank goodness she is so sensible.  I must confess I'd have contacted the church in question as they have something to worry about - either they've got someone genuine who has no common sense at all ............. the other possibility is terrifying.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • The new Dyfi female, 3J, has been named Telyn.  It means harp.

  • Good morning.  Just seen J off on his Manchester trip (previously postponed when we were snowed in this side of the border).  He’s actually working today, but he won’t come here after work as OH will transfer him and appropriate luggage to the station; OH is using J’s car, so having given him a lift this morning will continue to Tesco’s for shopping in that vehicle.  We are hoping to be in the garden most of today – weather is dry but not very sunny, so may not be warm enough for me since I don’t move around so much.

Heather – sorry Amy had a scare – pleased she coped well with the situation.

Linda – sorry Awful Cousin is spoiling the year for you and SiL, even before she comes!

Annette – I hope Kew lived up to everyone’s expectation – unfortunate that the Temperate House remained closed: you were just three days too early!  Good that you found a way to charge phone at the hotel.  Wishing you a comfortable flight to Chicago, and a great train trip overland.

Lynette – sorry to see you are currently without computer access, and once again nursing bruises!  I am sure you had an accident like that in the kitchen once before – do you have a dangerous rug or something in there?  Do take care.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • CLARE - I saw the announcement about Telyn - sad that they had to wait for Glesni's demise before they named the replacement.  But a nice name.

  • CLARE- Daughter did attempt to contact the church but got no reply. Maybe the police will have more success as Amy told them what he told her. He was apparently American.

  • I saw it, too.  It's a good name. Sad about Glesni :-(

  • Afternoon all:  Well, flight to Chicago delayed by - gasp! - three hours due to nasty weather in Chicago.  Not surprised  Fortunately am ensconced at Heathrow, plugged in and fully charged with nowhere to go. Am in best philosophical mood.   Weather at Kew Gardens was mostly showery by the time we got there; we were in the hothouse during the one downpour.  Sister's main goal was to see the Rock Garden, where we decided it wasn't too different from hers at home  Must say, they gardens could have done with better signage.  Also, would be great if they had small trams that offered hop on/hop off options, as opposed to the official tour trams that stick to a prescribed route/schedule. The place is huge! There is a map, but it's a bit small and in reality some of the landmarks aren't obvious.  Still, nobody asked me, although I think I'll send a suggestion.  OG: If you ever go, be sure to reserve a mobility scooter well in advance!

Diane: Please arrange for nasty weather to be well and truly gone (or diminished) ASAP.   Would not be surprised if further delays ahead.

Heather: Re strange Americans approaching Amy, brilliant she had her wits about her and that they reported the guy.  He could (could!) have been one of these missionary types from the Church of Latter Day Saints or something, but.....

OK; stomach is rumbling so must make a decision regarding eats.

  • Oh, ANNETTE. I was imagining you winging your way to Chicago :-( I hope that you don't have further delays.

  • LYNETTE - so sorry about your accident. Hoping that you will recover from it, plus the shock of it, soon.

It is windy here and I am definitely not fond of gardening when the wind is cool! So, doing inside jobs today. I would like to get outside on Saturday/Sunday as the garden bin gets collected on Monday.

The wind is good for some things, LINDY - like drying washing....

  • I got two w. machine loads done, Heather, but no net curtains!   Did some boring ol' ironing this afternoon, whilst catching up on my tv watching.
