Well, this DU intro is all about Junior. Our new male certainly has a way with twigs and branches, as seen in Moffer's early morning snap below. In fact, it turns out looking like our Junior may likely be last season's Twiggy, underlined by the fact that Limpy has called him Twiggy all along, and scylla finally did an empirical study of head markings. He also seems to be one of those fathers that needs to be pushed off the eggs (scylla's vid), and that was after only bringing clumps, not fish. After a couple intruder alerts, Moffer posted this wonderful shot of him yawning as EJ calls for a meal (that she hadn't had yet). It was only after 1 pm that he circled over the nest with a headless fish before finally delivering it to EJ 5 minutes later. Floating names for this new male brought out the origin of Odin's name. Sheila offered a note from Alison on Junior's whereabouts off the nest from LG's perspectives. Growing consensus that he's worthy has many wanting to see him properly named, especially since he has a dedicated thread here. EJ had been dozing on the nest, as seen below, but right now she is sorting her feathers after having been awakened by something a little while ago (next post).© RSPB - Loch Garten and Carnyx Wild_______________________________________The Daily Update is for recording nest events only, allowing for banter, though—any questions or conversations can happen on the Osprey Chat thread. EJ is calling. Not insistently yet.

EJ is calling. He must be back.
Has anyone heard a 'sizzle' sound? Electrical? I hope the rain isn't getting into the wiring! It hasn't really rained that much so far.
Again!

Mmmmm George?? Georgie??? "Georgie, Porgie, Pudding and Pie"???? It wouldn't have been my choice. Doesn't sound remotely like a handsome, strong avian raptor to me. Still, neither does EJ if it comes to that, and we're all used to that now. Maybe the Italianised version "Giorgio" sounds a bit more elegant?
Very disappointed in RSPB Loch Garten's naming of 'Junior' on so many levels and for so many reasons. If it is a choice between the chosen name, and some other means of identifying him in future, I think I will use the latter. Enough said.
Thanks all for the pics, vids and reporting....highlighting the significant events of the day here so far. Saves me having to trawl through my recordings. :-)
Point of interest...Can we have more underwing pics posted for records sake, and can we also have more underwing pic comparisons when trying to identify different birds, or is it not thought a good way of comparing and identifying one bird to another.
I am still learning, and no doubt that will never change...so welcome useful feedback.
I'm actually feeling quite ill about this name!
I need a break - off for a bit - SYAL
Further ruminations.... Perhaps on the forum we could refer to him as Junior George, ie "JG". Soundwise, it sort of complements his female partner, so we have EJ and JG. Just a thought.....

As you have seen, I don't do a lot of snaps but I'm sure they can be provided. However, we've recently been told (can't remember who found the info) that top-of-head markings are the only ones that don't change between moults, therefore the same from season to season.
Have I got that right, anyone?
I quite like the name Geordie! Can't we use it as a nickname for George?
If everyone can buy and read 'The return of the Osprey ' and then realise what George Waterston did for Loch Garten and Ospreys in Scotland , there is now a photo of him as you enter the VC , Loch Garten would not be Loch Garten if it had not been for him , I personally think it is a wonderful tribute to an amazing man .
