Well, this DU intro is all about Junior. Our new male certainly has a way with twigs and branches, as seen in Moffer's early morning snap below. In fact, it turns out looking like our Junior may likely be last season's Twiggy, underlined by the fact that Limpy has called him Twiggy all along, and scylla finally did an empirical study of head markings. He also seems to be one of those fathers that needs to be pushed off the eggs (scylla's vid), and that was after only bringing clumps, not fish. After a couple intruder alerts, Moffer posted this wonderful shot of him yawning as EJ calls for a meal (that she hadn't had yet). It was only after 1 pm that he circled over the nest with a headless fish before finally delivering it to EJ 5 minutes later. Floating names for this new male brought out the origin of Odin's name. Sheila offered a note from Alison on Junior's whereabouts off the nest from LG's perspectives. Growing consensus that he's worthy has many wanting to see him properly named, especially since he has a dedicated thread here. EJ had been dozing on the nest, as seen below, but right now she is sorting her feathers after having been awakened by something a little while ago (next post).© RSPB - Loch Garten and Carnyx Wild_______________________________________The Daily Update is for recording nest events only, allowing for banter, though—any questions or conversations can happen on the Osprey Chat thread. Can't say I'm enamoured with our Junior, being a George. I understand the sentiment behind it. But surely a stature to the great man would have been more relevant and a permanent reminder of what he did for the resurgence of osprey back in the late 50s, than naming an osprey after him? But it's their decision. EJ and George... not sure.

All quiet
Hi everyone ☺
Many thanks for all the updates, pictures etc. Good to see a big fish has been delivered. At least we now have a name for the new male. Hello George. Funnily enough I get the feeling I'll end up in the habit of using the Scottish form: Geordie
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Oh dear. I'll be honest. I don't like the name George for Junior. What sort of name is that for an Osprey. It isn't catchy enough or classical for a majestic bird. ( my apologies to all George's out there. You didn't choose your name). I agree, the chap he is named after could have a plaque. Sorry if I've upset anyone.
You haven't upset me in the least, Cathy. In fact you have said exactly what I thought best for me to leave unsaid. However, I do respect their right to bestow a name of their choice and I'm sure I will soon get used to it. I do like "Geordie" much better. It has more o a Scottish sound which I was hoping for.
I did a search for George Waterston, and found an interesting article printed in the "Scots Magazine, October 1975, one of a series by Tom Weir". Unfortunately I can't access the link, but it is worth searching using the quotes above. Some of it will be familiar if you have read Birds in a Cage by Derek Nieman.
Edit: I find it particularly fascinating that he bought Fair Isle after WWII, for the princely sum of £3,500, and set up the observatory.
It continues to rain, and unless George is hiding out of sight, he will find fishing difficult! EJ is very quiet.

That's highly unlikely, Cathy, given the reactions so far. Mine's no different. I can't think what came over them :(
I shall have to call him Georgie. Ooh no, that's no good either :'(
