Well, this DU intro is all about Junior. Our new male certainly has a way with twigs and branches, as seen in Moffer's early morning snap below. In fact, it turns out looking like our Junior may likely be last season's Twiggy, underlined by the fact that Limpy has called him Twiggy all along, and scylla finally did an empirical study of head markings. He also seems to be one of those fathers that needs to be pushed off the eggs (scylla's vid), and that was after only bringing clumps, not fish. After a couple intruder alerts, Moffer posted this wonderful shot of him yawning as EJ calls for a meal (that she hadn't had yet). It was only after 1 pm that he circled over the nest with a headless fish before finally delivering it to EJ 5 minutes later. Floating names for this new male brought out the origin of Odin's name. Sheila offered a note from Alison on Junior's whereabouts off the nest from LG's perspectives. Growing consensus that he's worthy has many wanting to see him properly named, especially since he has a dedicated thread here. EJ had been dozing on the nest, as seen below, but right now she is sorting her feathers after having been awakened by something a little while ago (next post).© RSPB - Loch Garten and Carnyx Wild_______________________________________The Daily Update is for recording nest events only, allowing for banter, though—any questions or conversations can happen on the Osprey Chat thread. The precipitation has stopped, leaving EJ looking quite wet

12.44 EJ continues to call gently
After a fly past he's back trying to mate
and leaves
EJ has flown
and back quickly
12.57 Junior landed for a mating. EJ wasn't enthusiastic. She has flown, leaving eggs alone in the sunshine.
... and returns
I noticed EJ looking warm earlier, didn't do a snap as I knew it would be taken care of ;)

I was already depressed about the fall-off in EJ's participation over the past couple of days, am heading for rock-bottom now :(((

I've been going back over 2016, just before hatch and backwards to laying to see whether there was any reports of matings, post egg laying. I came across this photo of Odin...the 'Y' mark on the head. I know that mark is seen on others, 33 being one, but wouldn't it be lovely if it were one of the 2010 brood!

Don't tell me to search the records, but I'm not sure if mother/son relationships are a good idea ??? It's got to be a possibility, tho, as the males return to natal nest area. Congrats on finding the appropriate pictures of Odin :o
I love EJ's preening positions
She's been keeping an eye on someone in the sky
It's tiring work being a female Osprey on eggs
BBL
Junior lands silently except for the sound of his wings
He moves EJ's stick to the other side of the nest
