The day or rather night started with EJ performing what became virtually an 'all night vigil' following her arrival on the nest late the previous evening in darkness after obviously sensing Pine Marten activity on the nest - the encounter brilliantly captured as usual by the amazing Scylla. She (EJ not Scylla), together with a rather unappetising tail of a fish, remained on the nest until just before dawn. The nest was mostly unoccupied during the day and we hope that the new day will bring us 2 Ospreys, preferably of different sexes and certainly 1 of them has to be EJ, getting to know each other. Hope springs eternal.
Some people think Ospreys are a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.
She is just too Beautiful:
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

I agree. What I want to hear most in the world right now is a sound not unlike a lorry reversing. I am sure EJ will be able to recognise the difference between this and a male Osprey vocalisation ‘sky-dance’ display call. Eyes peeled and volume at the max here.
Bottoms up stretch and she's off. Looks like she headed for the cam tree
Bowing out:

So interesting, amazing scenes. So that was Henry, and there was EJ in her youth.
"Historical gem" indeed, Sheila.
Thank you CRinger, and thank you Clare for bringing it to our attention.

I can remember Moffer saying some time ago that she would have married Henry, he was so fantastic!

Hi Sheila
Is this a typo? As far as I am aware Green J did not return in 2017. (sadly)

Yes! I can find nothing for 2017, but know she bred on a new nest with a new male, Blue CL6(013)m. I will correct it to 2016.
RD hasn't gone beyond her beginning her final southward migration on 20 September 2016.

Such. a shame she didn’t return last year, it would have been interesting to see if she still produced chicks at her grand old age.
It was 2016 she bred with a new mate at a new nest, :-)
