DAILY UPDATE ~ Loch Garten nest ~ Monday, 2 April 2018

Much more to-ing and fro-ing from EJ on the nest yesterday, stickifying and searching the skies for her Potential Prince (cue the music Limpy thoughtfully provided for her). Maybe as more osprey move north, the possibilities will increase. Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully she is snoozing watchfully near the nest until the morning arrives and she can greet the Breakfast Club.

  • OK Karen!

Final comment here on this subject, but I feel it's Loch Garten who should do the reporting in this case, as it happened on their nest.

They may be able to get a clearer view of the ring. if they can play back the video.

The correct contact for osprey sightings in the UK is the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation

  • The pine marten disappeared down the left side of the nest.  I hope it doesn't come up through the middle.

All this about ringing is really interesting but should we not take it to the Osprey Chat Thread as all our chat makes more work for Birdie writing up her summaries.

Karen, I am aware that I am a relatively new poster to the various forums & may well get slaughtered for this post but I will ask a polite question with a suggestion which will hopefully be seen as constructive.

Does your comment also apply to multiple copies of often essentially the same photographs and should there not be threads dedicated just to photographs?

There was a discussion last week, which got a bit heated, that the DU should be easily navigated so that people can quickly & easily find out what has been happening once the action starts (like today). I appreciate that the discussion around ringing does not comply with that stated aim of quick & easy navigation, but I would humbly suggest that multiple/duplicated photographs also do not comply with that aim.

  • I put my iPad on charge and missed all the action!!! I think I preferred it when all was peaceful! Snow there now. Looks very wild. Hope EJ is sheltering somewhere.

Ian, No, you will not be slaughtered, certainly not by me,  for you are entitled to your opinion :-)

The comment is not "mine".  I merely copied it from the opening post of the DU which after some discussion was decided to be added each day to highlight the purpose of this thread was for nest activity reports.   We were digressing and ringing is interesting and a good one for chat which would be a shame to be lost within nest reports, so by suggesting taking it over to chat,  I thought I was being helpful  :-)

About photographs - perhaps one for further discussion by the DU?

  • Thanks Karen. This is something I have been thinking about since the exchange of posts, about the purpose of the DU, last week that resulted in some people getting quite upset, your post just gave me the stimulus to offer my thoughts. Ian

  • I clearly missed all of this evening's action, the intruder and the PM. Not much to report just now. ENS and what looks like snow flying around in the wind.

  • Thank you all for updates, pics, and great vid captures.

  • Been out all day and also missed the action. Very impressed by BNN's compilation of 2017 'intruders' (thank you for all that hard work!) - I must confess I found last season too upsetting to keep watching...
