Great news, indeed, Ann. Dyfi now has a returning chick from seasons 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Wonderful for them and for the Osprey World.
But for me each returnee is a bit like a nudge of a wee knife, bringing back memories of EJ's chicks Wee Yin, Dashar, Willow, Rowan, Bynack, Caledonia, and others. Loved on the nest and followed with hopes for their eventual return. Such high hopes for Caledonia and yet like all the others the word came that she too had died. Garten, my very own top favorite, ringed but untagged, I like to think of as wild and free, unencumbered with any man-made baggage, soaring the skies, finding her own nest and mate, raising a family. And yet, did she like all her recorded siblings, die within a year or two. And now my am completely hopeless of any chicks at LG this season.
Excellent summary of the current situation on the main BLOG.
June, It can be depressing but I try to remind myself to think of the long view. Although EJ's situation looks dire now, she has successfully fledged many chicks and fingers crossed we may yet see them and possibly even another miracle and see her back next year. Also, the success of nests varies with the seasons and some thrive while others do not but things could be reversed in another year. Over all, numbers of Ospreys in the UK and possibly elsewhere are increasing.
Kind regards, Ann
Afternoon all.More bad news or EJ! That George is a complete waster! Maybe we can forgive him as he must be young and inexperienced. Quite glad that no chicks will hatch as it would have been terrible to watch them starve to death. At least EJ has fed herself!
Great news that Merin has been discovered breeding in Denmark! Why did he choose to go to Denmark? Great news that Tegid has returned too some good news for Dyfi! Who knows we will never know if any of EJs chicks have returned sometimes they go undiscovered for ages!
