Thanks to Everyone for all of the pics and posts today!
I wonder if the Egyptian Geese which attacked 3J and her first partner did so at night and that might be what is making her avoid sitting on the egg. I wonder if she is asleep on the nest perch. Eggs have remained uncovered for extended periods at other nests; it is possible that we should not worry just yet although the possibility of predation is there, especially if this continues into the daylight hours.
Kind regards, Ann

Hi Kate.
Good morning, all. Good to see her on the egg - let's hope she doesn't spend hours off it every night!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Monty has brought a whole fish:
She has flown with it and Monty heads to the egg.

Monty brought a whole fish for 3J and she flew off with it. He's now settled on the egg. What a Dad!
I make it that the egg was uncovered for (very approx!) 7 hours 30 minutes. Something did startle Blue3J.
Last season, Aila at Arkaig was scared by an owl on her first (?) night of incubation and didn't incubate for the following 2 (?) nights. Of course, we don't know really whether the first egg failed as a direct result because the new parents were so incompetent at hatching time.
Blue3J eventually returned, can't work out the time. I was half expecting Monty to turn up first.
